United reportedly approached Nuno Mendes and have made a bid

What went on in 22/23 season, hamstring and muscle injury out for whole season?

Good player. Maybe having a guy who can play LB in a 4 at LWB means we could afford to play Amad at RWB on the other side? Gets another attacker into the team.

What his injury record like? Don't need a third LB spending all their time with our medical team.

Yeah, that is one of the concerns I had with him as well as his injury record. Sancho struggles against most premier league defenders because they are quick yet turned Nuno easily on that day. Add the he’s played for the manager before and you get ETH signing vibes. Do we not have scouts yet?

De Ligt, Ugarte, Yoro..
And now getting linked to players like Davies, Hernandez, Mendes for the lb/lwb position. Can not complain about the players we are looking at at least under the new regime.
We are going to tear the championship a new one!

Haha - Oxford United is quacking in their boots

Please god let the attractive salary be no more than a 50% increment on what he's on.

No more Anthony's please

He's on €27k per week. His next salary will be a lot more than that, whether it's at PSG or somewhere else

Never impressed when I watched him. Would have preferred Davies or Hernandez but at least a natural LB.

Great left back. Which is very different to asking him to be our furthest man forward, run in behind and make an attacking difference. This stupid role we’ve decided upon requires the perfect player for it, which is a rarity on the market. Invariably, a player will either be too poor offensively or defensively for the role at the top.

He played for Sporting under Amorim.

He has literally already done it.

He's a fantastic player, one of the best LB / LWB in the world, and he's very young too.
However he's a bit injury prone. That might be a problem for potential buyers.

Having said that, I don't see why PSG would entertain this in January.

Both of them haven’t played in this system have they? Mendes has that going for him at least.

Agreed. Not against the idea at all just that I was never really impressed when I saw him but that's a small sample size. At least we are adressing the right positions

Seems to be a typo. That 287 day injury seems to be mainly the 23/24 season but started the previous season. He had an operation in October 2023 (guessing because the injury kept recurring) and was back playing later in 2024.

Mendes had suffered from a hamstring injury since May 2023, and was successfully operated in October by surgeon Lasse Lempainen in Turku, Finland.[32] He only made his return on 25 February 2024, playing 20 minutes of the 1–1 league home draw against Rennes in place of Lucas Hernandez.[33] He eventually helped his team to reach the Champions League semi-finals, where they were knocked out by Borussia Dortmund 2–0 on aggregate;[34] they also won the domestic treble with record-extending successes in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions, with the player only not taking part in the latter due to his injury.[35][36][37]

Having said that I'm genuinely worried now with this kind of deal. Our record is crap at best.

I don't know how he's progressed at PSG but from his time at SCP, he looked a very good young player with a high ceiling. I remember making a number of posts about wanting United to sign him.

He's already played under Amorim and it seems Amorim wants him if RMC in France are to be believed.

Find it funny the amount of people on here willing the head coach to buy a player he has worked with before ....

Worked really well previously I guess.....

I reckon Amorim knows what he needs for the role better than somebody on Caf

He literally is the perfect fit.

Because Ten Hag fecked it up doesn't mean it's not something that can work

Even if he is more of a conventional fullback than a wingback, like someone has said we can maybe then move Amad as the RWB and play one attacking one defensive. Requires another no.10, though

As long as the player is good enough, we are fine and dandy.
