With regard to "muppetry", is there really anything wrong with it in principle, so long as the targets of one's affection are somewhat realistic.
For example, to argue for Messi at a transfer fee of 100m would be madness. But to run with a rumor like Fabregas, given the situation he's in at Barcelona, might not be.

Fergie chose moyes as he likes playing 442 and width. So don't expect any major central midfielders. Fellaini is a step back.

The rumours today are that Moyes wants to bring in Phil Jagielka...
I can understand that he's loved working with him and I think Jagielka is a good player, but I sincerely hope Moyes can see past a good player for Everton and the need for great or potentially great ones at United.
Baines and Fellaini have been heavily linked, which seem more understandable (even though Baines would be Evra's competition who has had an excellent season), but I do get concerned with things like this because managers do have a habit of bringing in familiar faces. Brenton's decision to get Joe Allen, Hodgson for Konchesky, for example, are one's where the step up maybe too much for players the manager had a high opinion of.

I think Jagielka is good enough for a side in the CL but not a title winning side. He would make your squad in front of Jones/Smalling/Evans right now on current ability, but you wouldn't need him at all as they have a higher potential.
The last thing we need is another CB; we already have Rio, Vidic, Smalling, Evans and Jones. Not to mention Keane looking great in the reserves.
That is not really true at all though. Moyes is not particularly known for his width, if anything he is known for operating slightly less wide wingers. The wing-backs are instead supposed to create that extra bit of width.
Evra fits in that mold very well as is more often seen as the most wide player on the left side, however Valencia has always been the most wide on the right - not Rafael. So hopefully we get to see the end of Valencia unless he hits ridiculous form again and Rafael gets to try his luck as our most wide player. Evra has done the job brilliant and I am sure Rafael will too.

I realise that accuracy isn't exactly the point of this post, but Isco would not be ahead of Kagawa there.

True, particularly in his first season as kagawa has had longer to settle but wanted a team sheet with all the new signings and their closest competitor.

I think Lindegaard will stay another year, but when an opportunity comes to be the first choice keeper of near enough any team in one of the top five world leagues, he'll probably have to jump at it and I wouldn't blame him. Scholes is obviously gone and I'm sure Fletcher will follow. I actually don't think we will lose all three of Nani, Anderson, and Rooney at once. While only one of them is an absolute major first-teamer, losing all three could be a bit too much strain on the overall squad as I'm not sure if we'd bring in the right replacements. I can see the likes of Bebe and Macheda finally leaving, or at least getting a loan deal for the season.
As for the ins, all the big names will be flying in... Fabregas, Bale, Di Maria, Ronaldo, Benzema, Falcao, Lewandowski etc.. And I actually think we will get at least one of them if Rooney goes for a decent sum. Other than that, I don't have much of a clue yet..

If were owned by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud it would probably have been Mourinho and 200m on transfers, but realistically with the Glazers I really cant see us signing any big names, probably bring in two or three players but not the likes Ronaldo Bale etc..
I think he's better than Lescott though you'd obviously have a better idea than me.
Think he'd be good enough for a title winning side, as long as he was a squad player and not first choice every week but could be a liability in the CL due to his age and lack of experience at that level, though you only have to look at a player like Dante to see that old(ish) players can adapt with little experience.
I was looking at the squad and I think we only have one space left if Rooney and Nani re-sign and Fletcher is cleared to play, unless Anderson is sold.
Jagielka wouldn't get ahead of Evans, he's had a great season.

The Fellaini talk is gathering momentum now and like every Red, I expect him to sign this summer. I'm not ecstatic about this, but I think he'd be a good partner for Carrick. Bale is going to be in demand this summer and I don't think we'll sign him unless he's adamant he wants to join us and force through a move alá van Persie last summer. Getting Nani to re-sign should be a top priority also, and if were to happen, we'd be in a very strong position going forward.

Nani probably will never be very consistent. Its the way his game is. However he's at least tactically pretty mature and does a decent team job anyway. I like the look of that lineup. Except Bale would be very unlikely.

Moyes will take over pre-season on July 1st but I imagine he'll be working at the club through June, as Neville said today it's best to get the bulk of your transfer business done by the end of June if you can.
I don't know about Rooney going. It's not as clear cut as people think.
I do think this summer we will sign a first team central midfielder. Probably won't be a muppet pick such as Gundogan or Fabregas but the likes of Fellaini, Song, Strootman and possibly Modric(unlikely but there you go) could be available. I could see United signing any of those first three and would be happy with any of them.
If Rooney goes then we would need to sign a top attacking player such as a Bale or a Lewandowski to not be weakened. If he stays I'd be happy with keeping this group of players together with one first team midfielder signed with possibly Anderson or Fletcher let go. There's a lot more to be developed and extracted from this group of players.
Even if Rooney did go and we could not bring another player with big X factor, there still a lot to be developed from the potential of Kagawa, Welbeck, Zaha and Hernandez and much more should be expected from Nani, Valencia and Young. The likes of Smalling, Jones, Fabio and Cleverely also have more to offer as well. So you are going to sign an expensive player just so he can cover for IF IF Evra gets injured? Oh then why dont we sign Falcao and Lewandowski if god forbid RVP and Hernandez get injured. Why dont we sign Isco and Eriksen if god forbid Rooney and Kagawa get injured. Also what are you going to do about Fabio? He has had a good season experience wise at least playing for QPR in his favored position and it would be nice to give him a run out next year.
