United bolster their recruitment backroom staff

Not even stepped through the fecking door and our fanbase is writing him off! Hopefully next summer we'll have an established playing style, patterns of play and required skill sets for each position and role in the side. Then we can actually target the right players early in the window and integrate players earlier.

Our fanbase are the shittest on earth, maybe tied with Barcelona.

At least there won't be much of an additional commute for him. That's a real positive for me.

A quick Google search informs me he has deleted his Twitter profile, smart lad.

He's also born in 1990, which makes me feel old.

share your feelings
But the way to get it out of our mind is that it’s all same to fanbase of any club. They all roughly have the similar distribution in that aspect. And the loudest is the easiest to be heard. Get it out your mind, you will do just fine.

He wasn’t the head there and isn’t here. This thread is full of people being absolutely ridiculous.

It was a genuine question; I know nothing about the guy. I'm not a FM expert like some on here. Is he joining us as part of the recruitment team (I genuinely don't know who our head of recruitment is)?

Just hope the guy can do a great job.

Not much resale value in him. We should be hiring up and coming analysts, not those looking for a final pay check

I didn’t mean you, I was talking about those laying into this.

This guy has seemingly been brought in to work as part of the team under our director of data science Dominic Jordan

Thanks. Gonna take these guys a while to get going, but let's hope it reaps dividends.

Has Blackburn's recruitment been stellar under this guy?
He’s an analyst not a scout. He will analyse the players already identified by the club. Doesn’t mean that he cannot analyse players from higher leagues.

reading this thread.. some of you really are spoilt twats

See my response above. Thanks for the answer. Not necessarily the insult.

I wasnot directing that at you, was more of a comment about the thread in general but I stuck it in here instead of another post. Apologies

Timely. Right on time to get going for the last two weeks of the transfer window

Redcafe is not and never will be the United fanbase... it's a forum full of what seems to be whining children.

The match going fans, especially those away fans are way more supportive and way more patient, albeit a little too patient sometimes.

Slightly cynical thing to do by the club right after ostensibly having yet another nightmare of a window; are we beginning the "things will be totally different next transfer window" narrative already? The question would be why this wasn't done three months ago?

Why is something like this even worth discussing? I know we're a big club, but this level of obsessiveness around support/background roles is weird as feck.

Bates is someone who will likely work under Mick Court who is the head of analytics. So it seems the analytics team led by Mick Court has grown by one. Not really thread worthy, but I appreciate the OP's efforts in creating the thread.

What I'm looking forward to is having clarity on who will be the head of recruitment. And that's a key role at any club when it comes to recruitment. Liverpool have Dave Fallows, Man City have Gary Worthington and Chelsea have Scott McLachlan in those roles and provide the decision makers at the top of the chain with players to target in various different roles. We sacked our heads of recruitment, so it'll be interesting to see who they've placed in that particular role.

I swear the only thing this club moves quickly on is spin about stuff they will do in the future. What they're doing to improve X, Y and Z gets constant coverage. Yet we never see the results of it. Ever. Constant stories about new structure and all this other s-t. Never any f'n evidence of change.

Actually united do all the best things for long term to back ETH. Just little too late for this window. But it will be beneficial long term.

Now they will try to back ETH with low risk signings for short term then go big on January window or next summer window. I think that will be the plan.

Is it because so many of them are so easily manipulated by club press releases?

Its an announcement of an analyst. How is that manipulative? Do you even know what his day-to-day job is or requires? How many of you here can crunch numbers that are required by an analyst?

This is why so many anti-Glazer comments here lose credibility -- everything is blamed on the Glazers when so much of it has nothing to do with them. Just constant whinging that messages that are important or pertinent get lost. Pathetic.

It's the ol' boy who cried wolf scenario.

I can't believe we've still not sorted that situation. Why sack Lawler and Bout without the new people being ready to step in? Especially right before the transfer window, where there input may have been worthwhile. Were they that bad? I guess going for ETH targets suggests that, yes, they were that bad.

Go big don't make me laugh

Drastic actions like that -- must have been some serious internal control violations?

Because we are a fecking shitshow in every single element of this club and they are wearing us down to feeling like absolute rock bottom

I know we're run terribly and are a disaster right now. But surely we're not so thick as to chop the leg off our whole recruitment structure right as we go into the biggest transfer window in a long time?

I washed my hands of ever seeing proper recruitment for this club a long time ago

I understand the logic. ETH will be on a learning curve (in learning about the league and the set of players he has on hand) so he needs to make baby steps in his spending too.

But sometimes low costs don't mean low risk since the returns are riskier.

Not an easy decision strategically speaking for Arnold.
