Ugarte, Mazrouai, Yoro

That's not how I remember Mkhi. I recall he barely seemed to play at the start then when he did we wondered what all the fuss was about
I remember he played really well for a few games around Christmas. Glad we had him for those Europa games, though.

Question is does EtH get credit for all of them, seeing as all the shite we signed is lumped with him?
They are all Ineos signings. Whether the signings before that were ETH or Glazers is irrelevant.

When was the last time we signed three new players and all three of them were looking this good by half way through the season?
Vidic and Evra, looked awful debut appearance, but came solid after a few games.

Can't remember 3 players in 1 window. On the other hand, don't get too excited, still need time to verify these 3, particularly on Yoro.

Also think it's worth saying that De Ligt has been quality as well IMO. He's our main CB and is excellent from set pieces which is a nice change from the rest. Definitely a good window, just focusing on getting younger players and addressing problem areas.

2014?

Herrera, Shaw, Blind and even Di Maria all started well.
Herrera too. In hindsight the transfer strategy that year was absolutely awful, but people forget how promising things felt for a few months there under Van Gaal. Shame how it all turned out.

I think Di Maria was already a busted flush at this point in the season. 2014 still a good call though. 10 years ago! Mad.
Didn’t he get MotM in the champions league final in his last game before joining us?

There is a clear thought process behind the signings. Esp like the age profile.

You can see Yoro is just brilliant. The kind of signing Real make all the time.

These plus de gea are all very good signings and gives me reason to believe that INEOS will fix our main issue of the last decade i.e. wasting money on mediocre players. 4 Good signings in a single window, the op is right, I really don't recall when that happened last.

Add to this, a couple of really good youngsters who may become first teamers quite soon.

Ole's first full season arguably had more impressive signings (without hindsight): Maguire, Wan-bissaka, Daniel James, Bruno Fernandes. All 4 performed well in their first 6 months.

Nah that was a poor window without even getting into their qualities as players because what it showed was our management had no idea what profile of players was needed to get back to top .

I just posted a similar thought in another thread. Yes agreed and I think de Ligt is also an upgrade, AND I wouldn’t write Zirkzee off just yet because there’s signs he’s actually a very talented player with potential. So despite what’s being spun in the media, the summer signings are no where near as bad as is being made out. The problems are mainly with the players who were already here.

De ligt is decent but not that good, wouldn't get near the arsenal or Liverpool defences
Arsenal probably have the best two CBs in the league and Liverpool have van Dijk, who was potentially a top three in the World for a period, so it's not exactly damning to say he's not as good as those three.

He'd get into Chelsea's team, and they're sat 2nd in the table.

All the players you mention don’t get nearly as harshly judged judged as de Ligt, because they’ve also made a similar amount of errors as de Ligt has done this season. All in all de Ligt has been decent so far and you can see him improving as well.

First - the positivity, yes, excellent signings and I fully trust in the model INEOS are building.

Pity none of them were attackers. I was all aboard the Olise train for a good six months and it seemed like INEOS were too but in the end decided to strengthen at the back / middle instead of bringing in an attacker. I shudder to think what our season would've been if Amad hadn't emerged to take that spot.

Amad was a good roll of the dice but let's not pretend like it was a sure thing.

Hopefully we follow this up with some decent attacking signings. We don't need WC stars. Jota / Pedro Neto / Diaz types are more than good enough to improve us. Spread 150m on three attackers (~50m each) with Rashford hopefully leaving and funding some of that.

Slight over reaction I'd say. Yoro looked good today however, he has also looked a bit shakey previously. Mazraoui has looked good and Ugarte for me is now looking like the exciting prospect from his Sporting days. Still a way to go. I think De Ligt has been a good signing. Whilst I think Zirkzee has been poor this season, this was my first time watching him live and he caused far more havoc than Rasmus did.

I really like De Ligt but I just haven't seen enough of him over an extended period to say definitively how good he is.

I would say for sure he's a top four standard CB though at least.

Personally, I'd be looking to sell Martinez and bring in Branthwaite, providing Everton get more realistic about his price tag. I know he made the mistake against us but he's still a much better overall profile than Martinez for that LCB position. Strong, fast, good on the ball (most of the time!).

Strong rumours that ETH didn't want or rate Ugarte. Wilcox forced it. Asked why he didn't sign for United over the summer, Ambrabat said: "Ask Mr.Wilcox."

ETH wanted Amrabat.
Interesting, I’m interested to see how January goes. Think sales were a massive part of what has been holding us back so will be watching that especially, but think the signs from the summer were good.

I think all 5 of our summer signings could come good which is such a massive change on the last decade.

Big Z is obviously the question mark of the 5 as he's looked hopeless at times, but he also looks like he could be a very useful squad option if utilized correctly too and he was clearly a very good Serie A player.

De Ligt is a hard one because he can look great but also has a lot of the same limitations Maguire does which makes it understandable to me why two top teams have already happily sold him at a loss.

That's why I said "without hindsight". Back then, 6 months into buying them, the feelings of those transfers were even more positive.

Eriksen and Casemiro were excellent until their injuries and Martinez was arguably our player of the season...and we also had a good season overall.

I wouldn't even put this close to the same bracket as that yet. Yoro has barely played and when he has we've conceded loads of goals and lost. Ugarte is starting to look good and Mazrouri has been reliable.

I mean i like all of them but overall the team has looked just as if not more shite than last season, and though that's improved recently, its been more down to Amad playing more often and us having a visible tactical set up.

The mental softness and ability to beat ourselves also last night if anything revved up a gear from last year. We out Tottenhamed Tottenham

All of Casemiro, Martinez and Eriksen were looking great by this stage in 22/23.
Two were also aging. At the point of their career where they couldn't get better anymore. Reached their peaks at another club.
Martinez have had injuries unfortunately but he's still looking good in my opinion. Not player of the season good but he still brings good value to the club.
