Ugarte, Mazrouai, Yoro

When was the last time we signed three new players and all three of them were looking this good by half way through the season?
I expect the ommission of De Ligt is deliberate and you must not rate him, but I think he's also an excellent signing, especially for the money we paid.

We essentially paid lower / mid-table CB money for a top four CB. Any time that happens, has to be considered a good signing.

Maybe 07/08. Tevez was an instant hit, Hargreaves slotted in nicely, and Nani and Anderson immediately looked very promising.

Early days and all, and while there's no doubt the squad needs a bit of a rebuild, maybe the summer wasn't as bad as we've been led to believe? Again early days but those three just look very comfortable in the system. De Ligt looks steady and has had some good performances too.

I actually do rate him but reckoned he might split opinions. To me the others are more obvious home runs (albeit opinion on Yoro is based on very little evidence)

vangaal's signings looked good up until about this point before turning to shite

but I don't think they looked this good

2014?

Herrera, Shaw, Blind and even Di Maria all started well.
I could be misremembering but I thought the first three struggled at first. Herrera and Blind started playing well in the latter half of that season, and Shaw started to look the business at the beginning of the following season.

De Ligt omission is weird. Think he's been very solid generally.

It frustrates me the narrative that the media make out we've made bad signings in the summer and that they're all Ten Hags choices. Think it's just that many look at our league position and assume our new players have made us worse while it's not been the case at all.

All of Casemiro, Martinez and Eriksen were looking great by this stage in 22/23.

Question is does EtH get credit for all of them, seeing as all the shite we signed is lumped with him?
I think it's been pretty well documented that Yoro and Ugarte were 'club' signings. There were several reports that Ten Hag didn't want Ugarte at all, and were pretty much substantiated by how sparingly he used him.

Mazraoui would've been a Ten Hag signing and I'm pleasantly surprised with how good he has been so far, especially for the price we signed him for. I really wasn't convinced in the summer.

We lost 4-3 and we're praising the DM, CB, and WB? I like all of them well enough and I thought Yoro played well but note sure it's the game to be crowing after.

De ligt is decent but not that good, wouldn't get near the arsenal or Liverpool defences

Yeah I was just saying it tongue in cheek for the most part tbf. I think according to EtH himself, even MDL & Mazraoui were proposed to him by the club & not the other way around.

My bad. I forgot. We’re only allowed to say anything positive after we win. How silly of me.

How long does the win amnesty last, by the way? Asking for a friend.

ye exactly

same so many seasons.

way too early, especially when ugarte looked poor for most of this season, yoro has played about 100 mins and mazroais main issue last few years is fitness, which hasn't reared its head yet.

Say what you like, maybe you want to comment on what a good sport Bayindir was too?

No De Ligt is surprising to say the least. We don’t concede 4 with him on the pitch tonight.

we need 2-3 more windows like this to make a proper squad yet.

1 CB, 1LWB, 1 no 10 and 1 box to box CM who all set the world alight is a bare minimum to get up consistently back in the top 4.

Sad how far we have come away from being one of the top sides .

The good thing is that fans now have patience and can see the idea that Amorim spoke about when he started.

I feel stupid for supporting EtH for so long due to the cup wins, as this was meant to be his 3rd season by when the full squad should take shape

Zlatan, Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Bailly looked good to begin with. Not the worst summer all in all as Zlatan was good, Pogba wasn't as bad as made out and often our best player and Mkhitaryan we got most of the money back and offloaded him to a rival. Bailly wasn't that expensive.

I would definitely add De Ligt to the list. Four very promising players that are all young too.

It’s the attacking part of the team to focus on next.

That's not how I remember Mkhi. I recall he barely seemed to play at the start then when he did we wondered what all the fuss was about

I said Pogba was our best player. Only thing I said about Mkhi was us recouping most of the fee so I'm not sure how you remember him.

i'd say he has only been good under amorim. he was dropped for a few games bby ten hag because of how poor he was i suppose.

I remember good games under Hag and then being frustrated he wasn't starting the next game

I was even wondering if he actually wanted the signing

De Ligt sad face :(

Seriously though, I’ve begun to love Ugarte, his disruption is a thing of beauty. It’s a skill that’s rarely appreciated just by watching a game but when you’re on the pitch and you’ve got one of those players in your team (or you’re playing against one) it’s such a difference maker.

This was the bit I replied to

Top scored for us in the EL that season

Yoro has looked pretty good so far, but it is a limited sample size.

I wasn't a fan of the Ugarte move, but he has been very good lately. Key player in the side.

Unfortunately we have sacked the mastermind Dan Ashworth behind this operation

I kinda agree. He looks good now because Amorim knows what he brings to the system. He uses two CMs, one more destructive, one more progressive. Ugarte said as much in the interview he did post-derby. As a six in an ETH system, he is required to progress the ball, which is just not his game. Horses for courses and all that ...
