UEFA U19s: Manchester United vs. Real Sociedad

Ahhh Harrop! He let me down :( such good play there as well.

Why would he go down there if he wasn't fouled..

I was supposed to be going to this, but car trouble caused a 2 hour delay and i'm just getting into manchester now.

Cheers for the updates.

Been impressed with Sam Byrne from what I've seen of him this game.

Should never had that offside against us in first half when we had clear 2 on 1 situation with goalkeeper, and now this penalty.

We're playing pretty well at the moment, but why do we always follow up a really clever move with a mistake! Struggling for concentration a little.

Weir was on for Perreira.

Who did Weir come on for?

Any other subs?

You guys need to work on your commentary ;)

Weir came on for Pereira.
Ashley Fletcher came on for Harrop and Goss has just come on for Rowley I think.

Good subs. Looks like we are going for it with an extra striker and a midfielder and three at the back.

He's one player I feel confident can make it here, he's one player I would love to make It here as well because he's proper old school.

Yeah me too.
Shame he isn't a couple years older/further into his development because he's the type of player who would slot into our midfield now!

Still look forward to seeing his continued progress though.

Clumsy looking challenge from Pearson, lucky to go unpunished I think.

Decent performance from us in the end but Sociedad were simply a bit better than us all over the pitch (except goalkeeper perhaps). The sending off looked ridiculous to me, he hardly booted it at the player, it looked like a little scoop that hit their player on the leg, the ref was terrible in general though.

For me the only players who performed anywhere close to their ability today were Joel Pereira, McConnell, Janko and Wilson even though Wilson got very little of the ball he looked a class above when he did get it. Thought McConnell did very well for his first game at this level and made a few big tackles and blocks. Janko had a decent debut looks very quick and powerful and Joel Pereira was excellent and kept us in with a chance on numerous occasions. Easy to see that this under 19s team is not an actual team for United as we really lack cohesion and have no particular playing style and changing formation 3 or 4 times a game which obviously isn't helped by the need to give people minutes even if it means playing them out of position

Those are the kind of games you learn from. All in all, I thought we did alright against a very classy side, we've certainly been unlucky not to get anything from our last 2 games. We're still in with a decent chance to qualify, I'm confident we'll do Shaktar at home. Keeper-Pereira was excellent, Pearson very good. Will he miss one or two games? Was McNair still suspended for this one?

Have not seen the game, shame to hear about the result but hearing the Spanish were very impressive and 3 from 3, you would expect that.

I hope we don't turn on the players like most do with the first team, being beaten by a top team is ok, it's about how they are coming along as players.

Can't help that a lot of the guys involved basically aren't getting any other minutes than in these games (Rowley, Rothwell, Byrne, Weir et al). Wonder if that's something we need to look at next season.

Reasonably good performance, I thought, against one of the best youth teams around at the moment. They shaded it, but I think we produced enough, over the course of the match, to have merited a draw. It was the sort of match that had 1-1 written all over it. Which is probably should have, given that Weir was denied that stonewall penalty (from a foul which almost certainly denied him a goal.)

Pearson, Joel Pereira, Rowley, McConnell and Weir when he came on all stood out for me. Pearson, in particular, was magnificent. Slightly disappointing showings from Harrop (for the first time this season, really) and Pereira, but then they're both very young and inexperienced against this grade of opponent. That's what games like this are for.

EDIT: Pearson's red card was a disappointment. To a degree I can see why he was so frustrated. The referee was awful all night, and also incredibly irritating, a proper hollywood ref. Plus he essentially cost us the game by not giving Weir's penalty. But as with all fiery, committed players, Pearson needs to know when to simmer down.

Good point.

Do you know how many games Pearson will sit out after his sending off?
