I just hope it won't get violent outside or inside the stadium. Both Viola & Olympiacos are good teams for neutral to support, just hope for a great game of football on this hot night!

If Olympiacos wins it will be the first time since 2011 that an european competition is won by a club outside the top 4 countries.

Thursday is the best day in football! Oh wait. Well, up for it anyways.

Didn't know it was in Athens, makes it even more heated!

I find that sad in a way. It's the finances of football though.

More populous/richer countries = bigger domestic TV deals.
Bigger domestic TV deals = better players, bigger overseas TV deals.
Bigger overseas TV deals = even better players, European domination and even more money.

It's entrenched.

Kind of want Olympiacos to win now even though I don't know much about them. Not huge on current Fiorentina knowledge either, but adimred Batistuta, Rui Coasta etc. in the past. Eye-catchingly unique kit colour too.

Curious if that El Kaabi guy can bag a few more.

Hugely important competition this is. I'd say on a par with the Champions league really.
For a Greek team or a club with the 8th/10th budget of Serie A, it is their Champions league...

I look forward to this game tonight. Proper old, historical cities here Florence vs Athens ( well Piraeus if we're to be exact). The city of Pericles, Socrates and Plato vs the city of Machiavelli, Dante and Michaelangelo. I know little about the teams and am for the most part neutral. That said, I might have a wee bit of a soft spot for Fiorentina due to childhood memories of Batistuta, Rui Costa and that purple kit with Nintendo on the front.

This is why I think this tournament is good. It's nice for fans of these teams to have a European final to look forward to.

I kind of agree, but they should rename it from conference league to something else. It has connotations of non league football... and just makes me think the teams in it are going to be total garbage, even if it's not quite that bad.

UEFA should call it "The European Super League" as a feck you to that abomination.

Both of the lower level European competitions have been a success for sure.
I don't like how the Europa has slowly started to become a Champions League graveyard. I don't think finishing third in your group should be rewarded with Europa knockouts. Having said that, the final this season was brilliant.

There's no dropping down to the other competition with the new format

I don't either, but our playoff victory last year against Barcelona was one of the best moments of the post-Ferguson era, especially in Europe.

Ever since hearing their support at OT many moons ago, I can never see Olympiakos without my mind immediately going PIRAEUS! after it.

Very important game this one for italian football.. If Fiorentina beat Olympiacos then Italy would be the first country in the history of football to have NINE teams in Europe (UCL: Inter, Juventus, Milan, Atalanta, Bologna UEL: Roma, Lazio, Fiorentina. UECL: Torino).

Forza Fiorentina. Let's make history tonight

One of those rare games where Im totally neutral watching it and dont mind who wins.

watching TNT, and commentary is behind the play.

All's good on CBS especially as that absolute roaster Ray Hudson isn't assaulting the ears.

I am sure I heard that along with the other changes to the European competitions for next season the name was changing.

Edit. Well just checked and the change is just from UEFA Europa Conference League to UEFA Conference League

So if fiorentina win Torino would go into the conference league. How’s it possible to have 9 teams from 1 league in Europe competitions
