U23s vs Southampton

Does anyone now why Mejbri didn’t play yesterday?

it seems this team is one of the best Under 23 teams of past years
It is the best one we had in some time, covered in all positions, although missing some players. The most important part is that team is really young, and at this age, one or two years older guys are much stronger. This team that played yesterday can easily play U19, and some of the guys available for U18 like Shoretire, Fernandez, Fish, Hoogewarf, probably one or two more, with Mejbri and Hugill out just of this game. So, it is very talented squad with very talented U18 team behind. Just a showcase of the good work Butt and his team did with Academy in the last few years.

The only thing left now is to reorganize the loan system, or maybe even find a club abroad (some rumors about it recently), where those kids can play as 19-20 years old, as not all of them will get a chance with the first team. It would be awesome if kids U19 would play for U23, and than the best one moving to like Portugal or Netherlands to play competitive matches for a year or two. Value will get up and they would probably willing to stay a little bit more and sign deal if they can play every week competitive football and improve. I am just not sure if Puigmal and Elanga, both probably the players the most ready for senior football will sign new deals. If they do it would be great for us, but on the other hand both will not get any matches in the first team anytime soon and from their personal point of view, not sure if it is good for them to stay or leave somewhere to play like Gomes did.

fans think every year is the best group since the class of '92...

especially after a win ;)

then you got others who slate the kids after every loss

Think Puigmal will go onto have a good career in La Liga, but not sure he's really ready for United yet. Needs to go somewhere to play regular mens football now to kick on.

He's got plenty of talent but he's a bit of a jack of all, master of none. Not quite good enough to be a midfielder, not fast enough to be a proper winger, physical enough to be a right back? maybe. Certainly got the engine for it.

How impressive is Fernandez though? built like a boxer and has feet like a bally dancer. Played RB as good as LB which is rare!

Bally dancer! By jove sir!

Facundo Pellistri performance vs Southanmpton u23s. Pellistri scored his first goal for United u23s assisted by Shola Shoretire. Pellistri had an excellent game and his close ball control and first touch were standout qualities.
Puts paid to some who felt he hasn’t got enough pace. Looks quick enough over the first 10 metres

Exactly. Loan system need huge work especially considering big first team squad that we have. at least we can get decent money from selling some players of youth teams if we could find suitable team for them for playing regularly. Henderson and maybe Garner are good examples.

At least Last week after West Ham match this was not true. about first team this is common but i think fans are more lenient and more optimistic about kids even after loss.

Probably Shoretire's best game for the U23s so far, showing a lot of promise and seems to finally be finding his feet at this level. Puigmal's turned into a properly good little player, although that miss was comically bad, curious to see if we give him any minutes in the EFL trophy, it wouldn't be undeserved if we did. Pellistri looked very good, his technique is excellent, been very impressed with the start to his United career.

How old is Shoretire? Is he still eligible for U18?
