U23s vs Arsenal

Mejbri's absolutely fantastic at winning penalties, if he ever makes it to the first team he'll wind up opposition fans to no end.

This is a worry. Hannibal's holding his shoulder at the moment, and I'm hoping that this isn't similar to the injury that Elanga had.

He looks really uncomfortable.

Yeah no way he stays on.

Was that Harvey Neville giving up on that ball? That was absolutely pathetic.

Well worked goal, we needed a little spark, good ball from Shoretire then Hugil. Awful keeping though but I'm not sure Neville will complain.

They're really taking a chunk out of him. Some of the bite in these tackles. Every game he's always getting chopped up. Needs more protection from refs.
Agree usually but think he was really unfortunate, don't think the defender was being malicious, he was just doing his job.

Arsenal just collapsed, defensively, but it all started from Shoretire. He drops into the deeper midfield area near the left flank, and picks up the ball in lots of space. He has enough time to turn towards the Arsenal and then pick out a through pass to Hugill who was running into the space between the right and centre backs. Hugill then plays a low cross into the box, which was fluffed by an Arsenal defender before it slowly rolls its way to Harvey Neville. Neville side-foots it through the goalkeeper's legs and into the net.

The keeper should have done better, too, but I'll take the deserved lead.

Bjorn Hardley finally comes on to make his U23s debut for Hannibal.

Balogun was in tons of space in the box. Hardley was ball-watching and completely lose Balogun, and Neville was slow to close down Balogun. Surprisingly, Balogun comes up with a weak shot, and Kovar easily saves it.

Shoretire picks up some great positions, barely wastes the ball and his defensive work is advanced for a 17yo second striker.

A clean sheet here would be phenomenal, 10 men or not, Arsenal unbeaten in 7.

Stanley looks absolutely tiny, he might struggle physically tonight. Arsenal aren't actually playing that badly, their keeper's not looking confident though. Just as I type this their own full back has a shot on goal, against his own keeper.

They've certainly changed their early season form around.

Good freekick for Shola to give away there.

Arsenal left back drills the ball back towards his own goal, keeper has no chance of getting near it but it goes wide, barely.

Seen a few like that lately
A lot of coaches are "drilling" it into their defenders not to leave their backpasses short, asking for the keeper to get sent off. But that was something else.

Balogun's a bit of a unit, isn't he? Looks strong as an ox.

Shola's unlucky, that was so close to a perfect free kick. Also that's never a foul by Neville, wins the ball cleanly.

I'm not watching it, but I was actually hoping Mejbri would be protected and rested this time around, only to read that these scummy cnuts keep assaulting him. At this rate I'd just give the U23s a miss and fully bring him into the first team fold (which is happening) and see if he can't get some cameos what with Pogba out for a while and a bench of nine players. If he's not ready next season then conduct due diligence and arrange a well considered loan.

Why have talent like that smashed around in every U23s game, it's not like Ronnie getting knocks from Scholes or Keano, they weren't trying to injure him.

He wasn't assaulted, just came off worse after a tussle in their penalty box. It was a fair challenge and their CB landed on his shoulder as he went down.
