I don't think people are ready for something like this to happen. Something like this would result in a barrage of doom-and-gloom reactions ("Game's gone" and the whole shebang).
Honesty its one more sign that football referees are the kids who grew up wanting to be police and failed to realise their dreams.

When I used to watch the ressies it was pretty clear that a lot of refs at that level are straight from the sunday league - player saftey is not paramount.
That coupled with the generally more tehcnical sides like us having a bunch of kids versus shall we say more agricultural journymen for some lower clubs, and it's pretty nasty stuff.

Was wondering where you were going with Silence of the Rams.I don't think United will be willing to battle for a result anymore. Down to 10 men, 3-1 down, and Derby are more willing to battle for a win here. I say let them have it and let the season end. The last thing I want is for more United players to get hurt.

Did the Derby man get booked for pulling back Hannibal - as Taylor was for very similar moments earlier?
Hannibal shouldn't have waved an imaginary card - although why that's deemed worse than verbally asking for a yellow I don't know - but he had a point about the inconsistency if the Derby man wasn't booked. As he had about the play not being stopped for his head injury in the build up to Derby's first goal.
It's incredibly frustrating how ball players get yellows for such silly things and defenders and DM's are allowed multiple cynical fouls every game. But that's football, and Hannibal is just going to have to learn to accept that unfair side of the game.

No United players have been hurt. Playing against 10 men is a good development opportunity for them. Be a pity (and a poor reflection on their character) if they raise the white flag now.

Other than Mark Helm, sure, no one else has. Whilst I appreciate the test for the United players who are currently out there, the Derby players are still trying really hard to get a win, particularly when we try and go for it. Just now, Shola got stamped on his foot by a Derby player in his own half.
Experience gained in a nothing game for McNeil and Hansen. Excited to see how they do next year. Hannibal should be moved up. The refs at this level aren’t protecting him. At least he’d win valuable fouls at senior.
Seriously, I don't see how any United fan (read: United fan, not a football fan) would have a go at Hannibal here. Sure, he was petulant and deserved a yellow, but given what he goes through, how can you not feel any empathy (or even sympathy) for him?
Then again, the same United fans berated Ronaldo when he was here, so...

The refs just seem to accept fouls on Hannibal and hardly ever book / send off the players. It's as if they feel he 'asks for it'. Not booking an almost identical pull back to Taylor's moments earlier - and then sending off Hannibal instead - is a fitting way to end the season as regards the way the U23 refs have handled him all season.

What's even more annoying is that he isn't diving himself about or going down at the slightest bit of contact. He's pretty much getting the Messi treatment at this level without any iota of protection that Messi tends to get at the top level.
Hannibal deserved the second yellow and he’ll learn as he has throughout the season but he had been fouled about 5 times from 40 mins onwards - plus the nasty accidental collision. The tackle on him was a definite booking too - which the ref didn’t give because he’s a colossal cnut as per at this level.
Charlie Savage has really, really struggled in the 2nd half. He's barely gotten on the ball, and he's really struggled to keep up, defensively. Given that this is the last match of the season, I can appreciate them having to deal with more physically developed players. This'll allow them to take their game to the next level.

Hannibal was stupid today. There really isn’t any excuse for that sort of petulance. It’s not on players to lecture referees about who they do and don’t book. Especially when he was already walking a tightrope after being booked for dissent once already.
On the plus side, it’s a good learning experience for him. He’ll need to get a much better hold on his temper if/when he gets first team minutes against much more experienced, bigger, stronger and more cynical opponents.
Play him nearer to the opposition penalty box and let them foul him all they want there.

Totally agree, he is very promising but has a bit of an attitude problem that he needs to work on. I mean he didn't just wave an imaginary card, he held one in front of the ref's face. So arrogant, and definitely deserved a yellow. And when you do that you can't complain if the other guy gets away with it.
On the plus side, he is going to eat the ref with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
Players 'verbally lecture' refs all the time asking for an opponent to be booked, a penalty overturned, goal disallowed, etc, and rarely get a booking in return. Even when there's loads of them round the ref.
It's one person waving an imaginary card that seems to immediately be deemed to warrant a booking in England. Why that's worse than verbally demanding it, especially in a flock, I don't really get, but that's what happens over here.
Hannibal needs to learn and accept that. But it's still a joke that players don't get booked for some of the almost assaults they commit on him at U23 level, yet they ref by the letter of the law for dissent, pulling a shirt, being last man, etc.
As per what @sincher said above, this was far from the standard card waving gestures or backchat you get in senior football. He would get booked for that level of dissent every single time. At any level, under any referee.

I have a feeling it’s his final day of school feck you to the refs at this level. The club have even had to comment on it in the past. I don’t recall them having to do that for any other player at this level. Some of the fouls on him this year were unsporting and the refs did very little to protect him. He’ll probably not play u23s again anyway beyond the very odd game for sharpness. I think his aggression is what might just help him surprise a few people if he’s given a shot in the rotation next year.
The refs this year have been a joke. He's gotten kicked to pieces week in week out, it's no wonder he's finally seen red, so to speak.
I think we’d be kidding ourselves to assume he’ll get a hell of a lot more protection from PL referees, never mind if he goes out on loan to a Championship team like Garner did (which might be a better next move) Look at Grealish. He plays in a similar way to Hannibal and gets the living shit kicked out of him every week. Imagine he shoved an imaginary yellow card up the referee’s nose every time he got a tug on his shirt?!
