U21s: United vs. Villa @ OT

Not at all. If you have watched our u21s, there is some very good football on display. Also, in u21, there is lot of chop & change in team with players going out on loan etc. If you see, the top team and us will be separated by 4 points or so if everyone I listed above win their remaining games(assuming they don't play each other). In the end, that at that level, what matters is unearthing some good talent. U21 title etc is just a bonus.
It was a joke TMH, I was hoping you would know. :(

Rothwell's goal was brilliantly worked.

I don't think it's a given. I think there is an England U19 tournament. Plus Will Keane will be back and Henriquez.

Don't know about u19 tournament and schedule but Wilson looks an upgrade on both Keane and Henriquez. They both are nice strikers too so it will be good to see all of them getting chances in some form of other but to me, Wilson look the likelier to make the cut at top level.

The u19 Euros are late May/early June so they won't be much of a factor. With the World Cup ending ten days before we play our first game in the States and Wilson already having been involved with several first team squads, I'm sure he'll go. Ditto Rothwell.

Edit; I'm talking bollocks, as per. The u19 Euro finals end July 31st.

What is the tour dates? The U-19 tournament ends on July 31st so some of them may come mid-way through the tour. With Wilson on the bench last match it looks like Moyes certainly has plans to implement him anyway.

How did Janko play today?

Unlike other, I like what I've seen from him. Also the fact that inspite of his first year and being only 18, he's very much a part of the U21 team.

Think Janko, Rothwell and Wilson are certs for pre-season tour.

Was a real good team performance. Pearson played well too. So much movement and desire it was men against boys at times

It appears you're right. The format is a bit odd as there's a second qualifying round in late May/early June (the one I mistook for the finals in my reply to Gerald), then the finals themselves in late July. If England qualify it would seem the United players involved won't be going to the States.

He played well today and as you've seen above scored a cracker. But I can't see him going on the tour. We will have enough wingers ahead of him. If England don't qualify for the finals then I think Rothwell and Wilson will go if not, they'll be with England unfortunately.

Let's hope England don't qualify. Do our lads even make the team? Ben Pearson is the only one who looks like a regular. Rothwell only has 1 appearance. Even if they make it Rothwell might not even make the squad it looks like.

Didn't Rothwell get his debut for the u19s recently? I think it's a case of him not being part of the England set-up for while due to a few injury/illness plagued seasons, but back in the fold now.

Each team plays 21 matches

Liverpool played 20 - 41 points
Fulham 21 - 38
Southampton 21 - 36
Chelsea 38 - 35
Sunderland 20 - 35
Man City 18 - 34
Man United 18 - 32

Pool already certain top 4; likely to be joined by Chelsea, City and United.

Typical cheating Chelsea, playing 38 games when only 21 are allowed!

Brilliant performance by the kids today. So much hunger. Varela and Janko were perfection on the right.

Oh right that explains it. I was wondering why he had only the 1 appearance.

Did Varela look like a player who can be promoted to the first team squad as a back-up to Rafael next season?

@KM, @Elliott ,@datura , @jb8521

Yes. But for his own development I'd like to see him play regularly on loan somewhere. Torino were reported to be after him in January and the Serie A isn't a bad place to gain first team experience.

If we can talk Vermijl to stay as back-up and send Varela out on loan I think that would be the best way to handle it. Those comments from Vermijl's agent didn't look good though.

I really like Varela I think hes a really good all round footballer, his dribbling and passing are very good and hes a tenacious defender and has good pace and a decent leap. He can get caught out of position a bit at times with balls played in behind him and occasionally against stronger players but thats not surprising considering hes not played any first team football and can be worked on. I think if he can add a bit more power to his game hes got a real chance because hes got a lot more to his game than most full backs and has the makings of a really good player.

I would say he's got a good chance. The key for him will probably be what happens to Vermijl at the end of the season.
