U21s: United vs Leeds

Mentioned at HT how it was a good watch but a recurring theme that teams are just more clinical than us at this level. Start of the 2nd half we miss another about 4 good chances, and Leeds go down the other end and score with their first bloody chance!

Yeah, that pretty much sums us up. They’ve had none of the ball and no attacks since that penalty, yet they score from the first attack. Once again we should be two or three goals up.

59’

Great turn and body strength from Gore whose long range effort hits the post.

60’

Mengi’s turn to try his luck from outside the box. Whistles just wide of the post.

61’

And another chance. Jurado with a precise pass to Hannibal who struggles to beat the keeper.

60’ scores from around the league:

Arsenal 2-1 Leicester
Chelsea 2-3 Brighton
Derby 0-1 Liverpool
Fulham 2-1 Man City

Aaaaaand another free shot inside the box. IHA plays it back to Gore who skies it. What a second half from Hansen-Aarøen.

Agreed, I really like the look of Hansen Aaroen.
I liked what he showed during pre-season and from the few reserves games I’ve watched, he could develop into a really good midfielder.

Impressive from Williams, not many players at any level are that comfortable in whipping in a decent corner with either foot.

We’ve pressed really well, some great passing and movement off the ball, we’ve created chance after chance yet losing 2-0

IHA is playing a great match- Modric esque tonight (against shit opposition granted)

Yet again IHA with a brilliant skill and a run to the byline. Almost finds Hugill but a Leeds defender gets a touch and it’s a corner.

It’s really annoying how cheap the points we give away are. Leeds have been very poor since the start but somehow find themselves 2-0 up.

McNeill on for IHA. Should’ve been someone else coming off. Take off Collyer and move Gore/Hannibal deeper. The Noggie was on fire.

Think the issue is, and has been for a while, we seriously lack a quality striker in the U21s. Hugil and McNeil are both decent but over the course of a season neither contribute enough, be it through a lack of goals or simply missing games through injury.

McNeill’s turn to miss a sitter. Very good front foot defending from Mengi there.

I'm going to end up looking like Ten Hag and Van Der Gaag if the U21's carry on doing this week after week!

That is part of the problem, but looking at all the chances tonight and who missed them it doesn’t tell the whole story. But it is true that we’re missing top strikers on both U21 as well as U18 level.

Actually when you think about it even our best youth sides had strikers like Mellor, Bohui & Burkart. Who, with all due respect have not had great carers after leaving us.

We hardly ever produce top level able strikers. Rossi, Welbeck and M.G are the only ones since 2003!

Is that a new law? I wish they'd enforce that more

Indirect free kick and McNeill’s shot gets a heavy deflection and flies in the net.

92+3’

Aljofree gets a second yellow for handball, when he touches the ball with his hand because of an offside that the refs then fail to call on.

Having watched this tonight, it’s good to see that the club have employed tactics across the age groups that are equally shit all over.

Can’t defend. Can’t score and our insides are made of butter

Good to see no-one's overreacting at all to a couple of games in August

FT

United 1-2 Leeds
Arsenal 4-1 Leicester
Fulham 2-1 Man City
Derby 1-1 Liverpool
Chelsea 2-3 Brighton

Disappointed by Hannibal, as I’m pretty sure the manager will be.
You can see he’s got talent but decision making still not good enough and he kinda lacks application. I’m not convinced by his overall attitude on the pitch
