U21s: Sunderland vs. United

Fantastic run by King, stole the ball at the halfway line and ran right at the defender, lost him going left and was 1 on 1 with the keeper. He really should have given the keeper a fake shot to get him to commit and then just gone around him, instead he shot right into the keeper with either side of the goal open.

Best chance of the half anyway.

Gotta give credit to Sunderland, they are doing a great job of getting men behind the ball and blocking the passing lanes when we are in possession.

Henriquez has hardly touched the ball, but his movement has been very good. That's probably the only positive we've had going forward..

That was incohesive to say the least. Cant say any United players are impressing so far. Cole the only one of our lads showing any sort of intelligence. So many poor decision makers out there. Shame Kings brain doesn't move as fast as he runs.

Henriquez hasn't been in the game enough to form any sort of opinion so far.

Unfair on Davide, who was the best of the front 6 in that half.

Surely not the "he is a legend" one - that's my favourite

Though I'm surprised Rooney hasn't had his legal team have it pulled.

I've laughed at it before, but I think it's had it's run. Maybe they should lampoon the ad a bit and take it a bit further, make it more ridiculous. Recycle the CGI flames and you could shoot it in an hour.

"Giggsy, have you heard the gossip from the tea lady this week?"
"Uh....naddo."
"Well, there's a new wine down in the bar, they say it's moderately priced."

It's been poor so far, although i missed the last 10 mins of the first half watching Corrie

In typical Sunderland style they've been putting a lot of pressure on us defensively. You can hardly blame this front 6 for not being very used to playing together.

Lou is really upset by this change in shirt numbers...

Did the keeper just get a touch on that? I could swear that shot by Brady was at least going to hit the post, if not glance in.

Great shot anyway.

Now Brady is down, looks like someone stood on his ankle.

Backups are warming up now, probably won't risk keeping him on.

Reece James on for Henriquez. James going into midfield.

This will probably improve us, I don't think Henriquez, Macheda and King were the best front 3.

Noble comes on for Sunderland and almost scores with a shot from very close range, great save by Johnstone who just manages to deflect it wide and out.

May have saved a point for us there.

Well, be glad you stuck with it then.

We certainly missed Tunnicliffe, King didn't get into the game enough on the left and overall the front 6 looked a bit understandably unfamiliar with each other.

Under 21 Group standings after 4 games played:
Manchester United 10
Southampton 8
Newcastle 7
Aston Villa 5
Tottenham 4
Sunderland 3
Stoke 0

We were very poor tonight, capable of much better.

Macheda's days at United are surely numbered.

Proper welcome to England for Henriquez. No space, tough challenges and heavy rain.

I don't know, Macheda has 4 goals in the U21 league, no one else for us has more than 1.

True but his all round game is very average, especially when you consider he is the oldest player in our reserves. He needs a loan at the very least.

Since we brought in Chicharito I have thought Macheda's days were numbered. He's a decent player, he's been fairly good in the reserves, but i can't see him making it here.

There's such a huge jump between the reserves and the first team, it's almost impossible to make that step up without at least a year loan, probably more like 2 or 3.
