U21s: Spurs vs. United @ WHL

I don't think Pereira is remotely good enough to make it here. Capable of the sublime but his consistency is shocking and frequently games pass him by even at this level.

He's not long turned 18. It's a bit early to be writing him off.

I've watched most games since the turn of the year and that's a complete exaggeration.

I think in Pereira's current position behind the striker you have to be something truly special to come through and make it at a club like United. While he has more technical ability than most of our young players and a spectacular shot at times, I dont think he is on that level like Wilson is where its hard to hold him back and say you have all the time in the world, theres no rush. Because he plays that well and does things on the pitch that first team players will find hard to deal with.

That doesn't mean I dont see him being a really good player in the future because of course he can be. But I doubt he will be good enough to be given chances in his position at United when we have Rooney, Kagawa, Mata, Januzaj and who knows who else in the future we might want to sign. Sometimes a player who has quality but just isnt as outstanding as they need to be to break through into the first team goes out and has a career at another club and in their peak years as a footballer they are absolutely good enough for top teams to want to take them and make them a fixture in the side. I think he has a lot to improve on and it'll take more time than any young player is willing to sit on the sidelines and itll only take longer if he isnt playing for someone's first team. But I cant see it being ours at this point.

Fair enough. I just really don't get the hype. Some people have him up there with Januzaj I don't think he's even close - the latter was amongst the best academy players I've seen. On the other hand Wilson seems to get better and better every time I see him and looks like he could well make the step up.

Is it though? Only the very best players make it into the first team, and I just don't think he is one. Fair enough he's still very young and obviously has potential as a player, but my opinion is that he will never be good enough to play as a number 10 for Manchester United over a period of probable heavy investment.

Not everyone technical needs to play in the number 10 role. I think Pereira's been moved about at times but it's good experience for him. We have plenty of number 10's. I would prefer to see him deeper as he's always seeking the ball to be involved in the play

This.

He had a bit of a nightmare last night. Nothing came off for him and it made him try too hard. But he's matured well this season and before last night it had been ages since he had a poor game.

He is so fast and has so good ball control while running, it's a shame that he doesn't play wide more often. When he plays as a lone forward, he is often isolated (even in this match, but also in many games this spring) - and I think that probably he would be perfect in 433 as right wing-forward, like he played many times for Academy.

That run starting at about 3:45 is sick.

He's fantastic all over the pitch, great for a modern day striker who is asked so often to drop deep and create. His ability to go on runs is half the fun.

Agreed. He'll be a number 8 sooner rather than later. Yes, he's technical and creative, but he's also a superb tackler and, when he applies himself, he thrives on getting on the ball quickly and looking to pull the strings throughout a move.

Application is still his only real weakness. It's the inconsistency of his application which causes his inconsistent form.

Ultimately, all these lads need to be getting more football than they are at the moment. It's hard for anyone to find consistent form when they're not getting regular, week-in week-out competitive football as part of a settled side.
