U21s: Aston Villa vs. United

The teams that have secured their place in the Elite Group Stage are:

Manchester United
Tottenham
West Ham
Arsenal
West Brom
Liverpool
Wolverhampton

They will be joined by either Aston Villa or Southampton.

Should be interesting!
 
Yeah, they've hit a little bump...they've won only a single game in their group and sit on the bottom.

Their Elite 18s also had about the same result.
 
Really good performance in the second half. Pinned them back and actually looked like a good functioning unit.

It was one of those performances you occasionally get from Bebe where he looks like a proper player. He has, after all, got the athletic attributes you would want. Still mostly has a shite touch, and everything is battered as hard as possible, but you can see how he would cause teams real problems. The Villa right back had a 'mare with him.

Petrucci and Tunnicliffe are surely likely to get a shot at first team action soon... especially if we pick up any more injuries.

Tunnicliffe made a couple of impressive driving runs. I think his overall game has improved as well. Petrucci put in his usual good shift.

Don't know if either will get a shot though. Petrucci is 21 now with nary a sniff (apart from a few brief appearances in the summer). He's been given a new contract and not sent on loan, so (you'd think) the Powers must have some plans. I'd like to be a fly on the wall..
 
Sooner or later you'd think that one or both will have to get a shot at it. I know that Scholes, Giggs and Fletcher are still around, but these two, to me, look just about as impressive as Powell and he's been given two or three appearances in the first team. Why shouldn't they get a chance... just because they didn't cost £5m?

We have to attempt the changing of the guard from the youth teamers of the past to some of the new lads... who may never hit the same heights, but deserve a chance to have a go at it.

He was also injured for 2 years.
 
Here are the goals. I especially liked Macheda letting the ball run between his legs from Petrucci's pass, it created space between him and the defender for the shot.
