U21 Final: United vs. Spurs

It will be interesting to see if we drop any first team players down to the starting line-up. The younger players in the first team squad are getting older, Phil 'The Phil Jones' Jones is 21 and Rafael, Welbeck and De Gea are 22, and Cleverley is 23. 19 year old Nick Powell is out injured, as well as 23 year old Chris Smalling who might otherwise have been in the picture.

However I'd really rather stick to the players that got us here, it would make it all the sweeter if they won.

Actually, if we beat Spurs on Monday, we are the U21 champions too

That's debateable. It's now a one-off "cup-tie" game, with the Spurs team drawn away.

But we have already won the league stage of the competition, topping the elite group by a comfortable margin.

No it isn't. That's the format of the tournament. If you don't like it, don't enter it. Beat us and you're champions, don't and you're not. Simple, really.

How the feck is this debatable that we'll be champions of the U21 league if we win the final? Do you even think about what you're saying? Is it debatable that Chelsea won Europa League?

If Munich had won the CL final in the Allianz in 2012 they wouldn't have really been champions in Glaston's eyes. That's why they couldn't be bothered on the night.

Why you no understand the rules :wenger:

To play your silly game a little: you have beaten us twice this season and we have beaten you twice. This works out as a nice decider officially and unofficially.

 it's not a debate at all.

Did Warrington moan about getting beat in the Grand Final against Leeds at Old Trafford, do Leicester Tigers moan that they have finished top of the tree only to be beaten on final day at Twickenham?

Sorry Glaston mate...that is a complete load of utter shite pal.

It's not about the result, it's about development. Stick with the ones who got us there.

No, it'd actually be debatable if we won the competition. Really.

 Only Glaston could argue that it's debatable when a team wins a competition or not.

To be fair, while winning the competition isn't debatable, being the best team certainly is. Play off systems that include the winner are a bit stupid IMO, playing every team twice is the best way to decide who the best team is and this year in the u21s that's Spurs, regardless of who wins this.

Arguing about being champions is ridiculously daft though.

Reds retain Senior Cup

United have retained the Manchester Senior Cup after fixture congestion ensured that the final could not be played this season.

Warren Joyce's side defeated Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last year and will keep hold of the trophy after winning the group. Bolton Wanderers sit second, three points behind the Reds but another three clear of City.

The Competitions Committee at the Manchester FA have confirmed that medals will be awarded to the United staff because of the league table as it stands and promised that a review will take place to ensure changes in the tournament for next season. The new format and structure will be unveiled in July following discussions with the participating clubs.

It means Joyce's team end the campaign with the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Monday and the chance for more silverware. It is the final match for the club at the Theatre of Dreams this term but the Red Heart United Legends clash with Real Madrid takes place on 2 June.

I agree...but that is the format.

More ridiculous was that 4th place gets nothing while the top 2 in the lesser groups get a shot at the trophy.

Mental.

Well not that I disagree but in a format where you know that there'll still be a final to play for the trophy you're going to experiment more when you know you've already qualified for play-offs and you won't play at 100%. In American leagues you don't say that the best side is the one who ended regular season with the best record as it can be misleading.

The Spurs U21 team is very good, all credit to them. May the best team win. And if that's us, we'll be the best team.

On the day yeah. Not over the season though. By that token Chelsea were the best team in Europe last season. In reality though, they were the 6th best team in England, outside the top 10 in Europe.

Completely agree, that is just mental. The whole competition's format is bizarre.

Chelsea was certainly among the best cup teams last season, no question, like they have been for many years.

Though I certainly agree this tournament has a weird format.

Must be some temptation to stick Welbz in there. No real reason for him to play on Sunday, and the U21 team literally doesn't have a single striker.

Other than that, play the kids that got em there.

Welbeck hasn't seen a single minute for the reserves this season, it would be really hard on the actual U21 players if he started. But then only Anderson, Evans, Buttner and Fletcher from the first team have seen any minutes down under. I can see Buttner for Reece James, who is covering for Veseli, and maybe Anderson for Ekangameme, who is one of the less experienced players that has cemented a first XI place for the reserves over the last few months. The former has a chance of happening, not so much the latter.

With Michael Keane back from his loan I can't see Evans starting either.

Has it been changed to 7.00pm? I was sure it was advertised as 6.30pm first, which would have made it a tight squeeze for myself to make it. 7.00pm is much better.

Good work from Facebook for letting me know.
Anyhwere it will be streamed apart from MUTV?

Tried to get two tickets for this earlier and there's no pairs available, only singles
