U18s: United vs. West Brom

enjoyed that game. could only half watch the 2nd half at work, but anytime I looked Harrop was looking for or on the ball, so looked lively.

Great game 4-2 in the end in very windy conditions. United playing some great football, with Harrop and Goss (who set up 2 and scored one himself).

We really did play some top stuff and what a pace we played it at. To do it against an obviously decent side makes it all the more pleasing.

It looks more of a team then we may have had in the past where we used to rely on one or two exceptionally talented players to carry us.

On a side note, Callum Evans has improved a lot at RB and Ben Barber has played well at LB too whenever I've seen him.

Yeah, he's playing with a lot of confidence it seems. He's been playing well in most of the games I've seen him in this season.

To be honest that's a trend that's been developing more with each new generation for three or so years now. We've generally had a couple of exceptional talents in every side, but with each new generation now that quality is becoming more consistent across the team.

I agree this side is a stronger unit than what we usually get at academy level but Harrop surely deserves to be mentioned in the stand-out category. He's always one of the best at this level, more often than not the best. Then there's Wilson who stood out to the point of being moved on to the u21s.

Goss was superb - his passing and playing-style is...maybe mature is the right word. He dictates the pace of the game - he hits 30-40 yard passes inch perfect and we know from his time at Exeter that he was a real goalscoring threat.

Oh yes and Harrop can't be fun to play against. Damn - that guy is Quick with the ball at his feet

Oh yeah, there are definitely still exceptional, stand-out talents in each group. My point is that the stand-outs and the non stand-outs are getting closer and closer together, because so many in each side are so good. I agree that Harrop is definitely one of the most promising in that group. Perhaps even the most promising, at the moment. He doesn't seem capable of a bad game right now.
