U18s: United vs. Southampton

Heavy night, just tuned in. Sounds like we're doing alright but our passing this half has been a bit awry.

feck missed it..just got back home. Can someone please send me a link if this is still going? Would appreciate it.

I missed most of the second half, but, from what I saw, United were solidly the better side.

What a talented bunch of kids! Any team in which Jack Barmby has to come off the bench is pretty damn good.

Januzaj looks a class above, and Wilson is a super player.

Clayton Blackmore was talking on MUTV before the game, and he made the startling claim that Wilson wouldn't be out of place in the first team NOW (today is his 17th birthday). I must say that accords with my own impression of his talent, although I didn't stick my neck out so far when I posted about him a few weeks ago. :smirk:

Any one from a group of half a dozen would be considered a great prospect. Together..

I wonder if Wilson will end up being a bigger talent than Keane, I think so.

The thing with Wilson, he's always been playing 1 or 2 years above his age level. I really like Keane but I really really like Wilson.

It's always hard to tell, but he sure knows where the back of the net is, and is a decent footballer to match the goals.

Hasn't impressed me anywhere near as much as Will Keane ever did. He's very fast and playing in front of a terrific midfield providing him with a lot of service, bound to score a few in those circumstances.

I think you're doing him a bit of a disservice here, he's been very clinical with what chances he's gotten in my opinion. I think they said in commentary he's got 12 in his last 10 so saying he's bound to score a few is harsh on the lad and the way you've phrased that whole sentence makes it seem as though Will Keane wasn't playing under the exact same circumstances.

While it may be a bit premature to be saying he's a better talent than W Keane he's impressed a lot so far.

to be fair the youth team that Will Keane played in had a talented midfield supporting him with the likes of Morrision and Pogba, both look to be very talented IMO.

Keane played ahead of Ravel, Pogba, Petrucci, Cole and Lingard.

He's less dependant on service than many strikers.

He's like Welbeck in that he uses his pace to chase the ball down and win unlikely possessions, but unlike him in the directness of his play. If he gets the ball with only one or two defenders between him and the opposition goal, he's very dangerous - he won't hold the ball and wait for back-up, he'll run past them and score (or try to).

I think you have to take into account that wilson is eligible for the under 18s again next year, in keanes first year in the academy he scored i think 11 goals where wilson has 12 already only going into december. Im a huge fan of keanes and think hes a fantastic prospect but i think wilsons extra pace and versatility with his ability to play on the wings might give him an extra chance of making it with us if he keeps developing the way he has so far. When you add henriquez and possibly bruno gomes into the mix aswell our future striking options are outstanding

Strikers are dependent on good midfields when they need lots of chances to score. Wilson rarely fails to execute a decent chance, hence why we're scoring goals for fun.

Interesting looking at gooDevil's u18s stats.

Apparently Sam Byrne has started only 2 fewer games than Wilson in the league and has scored 10 goals less than him.

Bit harsh on the lad to compare, as he's still developing and improving all the time and Wilson looks a special talent- just thinking that because the midfield is very good doesn't automatically mean the strikers will score as many as Wilson does.
