U18s: United vs Man City

Deserved to be honest, can't have the coaches see us playing 10v11 and not make any changes.

Much better second half performance but city took their chances. First loss after 13 games. Hope people don't lose perspective.

Perspective is that we have lost when we have met good opponents (Alkmaar, City) and clearly been the second best team. But yes, this team will probably beat Leeds next week.

We beat City in the first game of the season.

Beat city in the first match of the season.

Easier to moan though in garb of being "realistic"

Why are you explaining things to me that I already know? We are losing 0-4 at home and has been outplayed.

Cos you'll moan about it incessantly and will lose perspective.

Every team is allowed a bad day.

Murdock and Munro the only players coming away with any credit. Obi’s attitude deserves praise too.

Good wake up call ahead of the Youth Cup. Not good enough today, although can't help but feel things could've been very different with a Lacey/Mantato or even an Ibragimov. Musa's just been a void down that side.

1) We were too cautious in the first half and allowed their CBs to bring up the ball almost unimpeded. Only by putting pressure on them could we have gotten anything from the game.

2) We should have started Bailey on the right instead of Musa. At least he would try things and drive at their LB from time to time. To be honest i don't understand how Musa is still at the club.

3) We missed the bite of Devaney in midfield. Devaney and just one out of Lacey and Mantato would have changed the complexion of the game.

Yeah, but it's funny that it's always happens to be a 'bad day' when they are being outplayed. I'm sure City said the same when they lost at home to United. You can have a bad day, like last season against Swindon, I'm not sure that is the explanation for the loss today.

Yeah, Amir would have brought some fight in midfield too. Scanlon and Musa will never trouble defenders on their own, although Scanlon can have his moments, but you need to put constant fear in them otherwise they will pin you in your own half.

I have no doubt we play much better and probably win this with Mantato, Lacey and Amir.

Even though city dominated possession, they barely made any clear chances for most of the game and unfortunately for us the ones they made they scored and we didn't. We just didn't have enough quality in the forward areas today, so even if the game was 50-50 city would have probably come out on top.

Will need to pick ourselves up quickly because they don’t look like a team that will drop many points.

Be a good challenge and a good experience now on the run on

The score is harsh and there is always that what if (Scanlon hitting the crossbar, Obi's header, the clearance off the line) but we were second best. Amass was better in the second half, but all in all had a poor game. Musa has been discussed enough. Thwaites was anonymous. Hopefully it is a lesson to improve in our next games

Devanney is very a underrated player, badly missed today.

Wasn't surprised much that we lost tbh. Had too many key players missing due to injuries, whilst them is a stronger team than at the start of the season due to new signings settled in.

Yeah, a defensive minded player in midfield is lacking in this group. Fitzgerald, Tyler, Thwaites are all ball playing CMs but we've rarely had pure 6s in our youth setup which is pretty weird, maybe it is not a focus during recruitment or just a byproduct of our formation.
