Are we hot favourites for this? We had a shock defeat early last year if I recall?

Yeah naturally. Think it’s fair to say we’ve got more or less the best team in the country in these age groups. But as you said Swindon knocked us out last year at this stage. The magic of the cup.

With T.Fletcher starting for the U21s last week I suspect Devaney - Fritzegald - J.Fletcher is the midfield three for this game (I don't know if Jayce is fit so maybe Baumann for him). Think we'll go with Obi and Mantato as well, with Biancheri and Ibragimov to come on. The defence picks itself if Amass isn't fit, but if he is I wonder if Kukonki will start in place of Armer.

If I get this right - the following players can play in next years FA Youth Cup as well - Byrne-Hughes - Kukonki, Mills, Armer, Plunkett (Overy) - Ibragimov, Thwaites, Bailey - Lusale, Obi Martin, Mantato

That would be a really good team even this year.

I know we’ve always moved players up in terms of age group but to have so many contributing now but also able to go again next year is impressive. Looking forward to this one.

Excited about this team, love watching them play, hope we can see more of Amir today.

I am so much more looking forward to this game than to watch the first-team play :)

Bizarre. Ten Hag has gone now. There's so much to look forward to at first team level.

Until we’re in the next crisis cycle again and hounding out yet another manager. The bolded has been said regarding Moyes, LvG, José and OGS. And nothing’s changed.

So I get what @lysglimt is saying.

I just don't share the negativity I guess.

I can respect that. In fact I try to avoid negativity, especially on this forum. Plenty of that already in here. Just find it hard to get excited about yet another project but of course I'm interested in seeing what Amorim can do with the resources he has.

So don't be a grumpy git like me, hope we've got something to celebrate soon.

We need this FA youth cup win, with Rashford on his way out and Garnacho's faith uncertain, the academy representation in the 1st team is dangerously low. It feels like without an FAYC win the players don't get the same amount of hype and hence chances. We have a very strong team now, I just hope they perform at their usual levels.

Fair enough. We can all look at something and have our own perception of what we see. For instance, I couldn't believe how negative Gary Neville was in his commentary on Sunday. He basically slagged off our entire summer transfer business and was very damning of our performance in general. I couldn't have disagreed more with both points.

Anyway, hopefully a good win tonight.

That seems to be Gary Neville in a nutshell these days.

I don’t like being sceptical but can’t help it to be honest. Over a decade of this shite takes its toll. Still there’s Kobbie and Amad, Licha and Yoro etc. So some players that give me hope.

And nothing would make me more happy than a few of these youngsters making it in the first team. Even the lack of success would be easier to take.

Think we’ll smash them tonight.

Gary Neville is only interested in Gary Neville. Let's ignore him and move on

True, it's only natural to be wary. There has been a lot of 'turning points' over the last decade. I'm optimistic though. Some genuine quality players and an up and coming young manager who has a system that is seemingly conducive to giving us more control.

Agreed. Hopefully a few of these lads can step up and become fully fledged squad players in the next few years.

I could see that happening too.

It's not negativity - it's more that I really enjoy watching the youngsters play. They do everything I want a football-team to do: a) Put pressure on the opponent b) defend as a collective c) Work their socks off

True. Though it's at a very low level. The first team are making great strides in this regard.

Just watched the extended highlights of the 9-0 win against Blackburn on MUTV.

The elite mentality was wonderful to see, the team was as hungry for the next goal when being up by nine goals as they were at kickoff. At the same time you can see the necessary humility in all the players.

Can’t emphasize enough how impressed I am with the current coaching staff as well as the whole academy.

The academy has been the steady source of joy for me during the last decade. Something so pure about U18s (and younger) football.

United XI:

Murdock

Kamason
Munro
Armer
Amass

Devaney (C)
Fitzgerald
T. Fletcher

Scanlon
Biancheri

Obi

Subs: Mills, Byrne-Hughes, Kukonki, Baumann, Thwaites, Ibragimov, Musa

Probably Biancheri and Scanlon on the wings. Was sure Mantato would be playing. Also J. Fletcher, as T was playing on the weekend

Most likely, yes. That lineup would make one hell of a 442 diamond though. Scanlon behind the two strikers.

This team has some fantastic players who are already competitive on the U21 level, I fully expect 3-4 of them to at least be given a chance in preseason and early cup games in the next 2 years.

They don’t need hype, nor does the manager give debuts based on hype or anything external. Winning three competitions last year was more impressive than a single FAYC title.

I don't think the coaches care about hype, just how ready is the individual

Am I the only one who’s MUTV schedule has suddenly removed the game and showing something else?

Don’t tell me it’s another blunder by the club where they have forgotten to tell us it’s geo-blocked

Come on maaaan, I was waiting for this one, why is there a women's game vs QPR...

That looked a foul

You'd have bet your house on Chido Obi scoring that

1-0 United, Biancheri - Scanlon assist
