U18s: Stoke vs United

What a start from Musa, great ball to Scanlon whose shot is well saved by the keeper. Him and the whole Stoke defense have been so good today.

I like Byrne-Hughes but he seems a bit eccentric. Not always a bad thing of course. He’s very brave and composed with his short passing.

I see this as a more valuable win (if there is such a thing) than the 5-0, 6-0 games. Not being at your best, struggling to break the opposition down and sealing it late is a good experience.

Shows how good this team is - without even being good we are 3-0 up

This is the first match Plunkett really has shown why we signed him - one of our best players today

FT

0-3 (Obi, Scanlon, Plunkett)

A decent second half and an important win to keep the gap to Derby and Man City who both seem to be picking up three points as well.

Thought Fletcher, Munro and Plunkett were decent.

I only really saw the second half - first half took place when all kinds of things happened at once (including my Christmas tree arriving!)

First half doesn't sound great. But thought it was a good second half performance. Looked in control, and the Stoke keeper pulled off plenty of saves, including some stunners. So could have been more than the three goals in the end.

Probably needed an early goal to get Stoke out of their shell. Good 3 points, Dante Plunkett and Munro probably the best players for me.

There really is special talent in every position with this side.

Stoke's impression of anti football, happy for the goalkeeper to be 20 yards out of his area without even a thought of pressing him.
A really frustrating watch if you were hoping to see good football but we eventually wore them down.
Plunkett looks really good on the right.

1st half looked even, but the second was a domination.

10 wins out of 10 now and the stats are ridiculous. Even with Biancheri and Amass playing for the U21s and Lacey injured, this team is great.

You can say that - but in terms of development, a game like this is worth a lot more than clubs playing open football against us and losing 9-0

I was very impressed with the lads adapting to a more physical game and showing perseverance than anything else. Normally we are better technically as a group and we press and pass teams into submission. However they stepped up when the game seemed like it might drift from them.

The changes did up the tempo more though and it was noticeable we were a bit more direct. Again impressed by Thwaites dead ball work and his ability to make things happen. Munro impressed on his wrong side and looked like a leader again.

Bryne Hughes looks as impressive as Harrison on the ball for me at the same age. Hopefully he follows a similar trajectory and we finally get a goalkeeper from the academy into the first team. Know it’s early doors but we’ve had some decent talents in that position who have failed to progress.
