gooDevil, you're doing great job on Youth forum mate! Thnx!

I've just wanted to hear your opinion - now when Bebe, Petruzzi, King... left on loan, is that a chance for Wilson, Daehli and all the boys to step up for the reserves now?

Thanks for that, good to know people are getting something out of it! I wish I knew the answer to your question, might be worth a thread on it's own.

I would say there's a good chance we'll see a few of the U18s get some significant minutes, but I've really only started paying this close of attention to the youth teams this season. I would always miss the games the last two seasons where I started watching the youth teams, so these threads are an attempt to get me to remember when they're on!

First let's not forget Van Velzen and Cofie, who are back from loans. I haven't seen any indication of them going back out again, they would make fine replacements for Bebe and King if they do stay.

Januzaj seems to have made the permanent step up, so we should see a lot more of him. Of the 23 players that have 6 or more appearances for the U21s, 8 are either out on loan or recently sold, so there is lots of room. Mats Daelhi, Jack Barmby, Reece James, Liam Grimshaw and Luke Hendrie have already played for the U21s this season, so they are the obvious choices to get more games.

I'd like to think Wilson, Weir, Pearson, Pereira and Rothwell will also get some games here and there, but that's just a guess.

Lawrence will get game time too.

And Lingard and Reece Brown are back also.

It's nice to have Lingard back, great news, we'll need him in midfield with Petrucci on loan.

With King, Henriquez and Bebe out of the picture currently, Lawrence and Barmby are the only strikers that have played with the U21s, aside from Macheda of course.

Lawrence has 10 appearances to Barmby's 2 so far, so he should play a lot, more if Cofie goes back on loan and Will Keane isn't back anytime soon.

I thought it might be interesting to list the 'depth chart' for the U21s, to give us all an idea of where the U18s may have a chance to fill in.

These are the remaining players who have appeared in a game for the U21s, excepting first team players and trialists, but including Van Velzen and Cofie.

There's also Nick Powell, but since he's only made 6 appearances in the reserves I don't really think of him as a youth player.

PRIMARY POSITIONS
Code:
| Goalkeeper | Center-back | Full-back | Midfielder | Winger | Striker |

| Johnstone | Thorpe˜ | Vermijl | Tunnicliffe | Cole | Macheda |
| Gollini | Brown | Veseli | Lingard | Van Velzen | Cofie |
| Sutherland | Fornasier | Blackett | Ekangamene | Januzaj | Lawrence |
| | McCullough | James | Hendrie | Daehli | |
| | Grimshaw | | | Barmby | |

Lawrence likes to play of a striker more. Not sure how' d he go up top alone.

Barmby is a winger, too.

Also, Reece Brown is back.

The only amendment I'd suggest to the list above is that Giverin is on loan until the end of the season at Antwerp.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Macheda go out on loan at some point. Hopefully this will be offset by the return of Keane, if he's on track to recover.

Thanks for the corrections.

Where do you think Brown would figure into the list? Is he still primarily a center back or has he been playing full back?

He can play both positions like his brother, though no idea where he was playing on loan. Will probably play at CB looking at the options though.

Showed the goals from the Tranmere friendly now. Ashley Fletcher's was very good, he's a big lad.

United XI: Sutherland - Love, Ioannou, Grimshaw, Rowley - Weir, Pearson, Rudge, Barmby - Dæhli - Wilson

Familiar team - Sutherland - Love, Grimshaw, Ioannou, Rowley, Barmby, Rudge, Weir, Pearson, Daehli and Wilson

Still looks like Daehli's a bit wasted trapped out there on the sideline. MUTV clearly thought he was at number 10 today, but it isn't playing out that way.

1-0 Bolton after a Ioannou mistake leaves us horribly exposed.

This Bolton-side is probably the best I have seen at U18 level this season. Lot of quality all around.

Ref's not been great. Failed to give obvious advantage to both teams a couple of times now. And Pearson had good reason to be as riled as he was before that goal, being penalised a couple of times for what looked like fair challenges.

We needed half a half to clear the cobwebs but we look the better side now. Dæhli our standout performer thus far.

Yes, but only in the last fifteen minutes really. Out on the wing he's forced to rely on others to bring him into the game, which didn't really happen for the first twenty minutes. I wish we'd see him centrally more.

First statement is bang on. I feel pretty confident, if we can come out for the second half playing as well as we were at the end of the first.

Au contraire. He was the one United player who didn't look rusty early on.
