U18: Manchester United vs Liverpool

I thought Gribbin was moved to U23 so thats the reason he isnt playing but he is another AM....not sure if i ever watched Barlow, if i did cant remember him, is he any good?
But a serious lack of quality in midfield area, against lesser teams the AMs can carry the team but against top opposition we will struggle IMO.

Barlow was the best U16s player last season and was also their topscorer.

Whelan is better than what you made of him but yeah we would need more quality in the central midfield.Probably we will play Gomes deeper when Burkhart/Bohui settle in.

Whelan is decent at best, can play against lesser oppositions but slightly higher level and he is gone from the game, put him on the pressure and he disappears like today. That kind of quality should be for our backup players not the starters, and it tells you the story when he is our best CM in the squad if we dont count Gomes.

Much better in the second half after we moved Gomes into midfield....Boonen was fantastic today.

FT: United 1-2 Liverpool.

Much better second half. Can see Burkhart gets some goals once he has settled in.

This defence will be torn to shred though when Warren moves up.

You can see how dangerous Gomes can be when he's aggressive. He has ability to go past people to not only get himself a shot, but to create for others. He's just passive a lot of the time.

Admittedly I saw about the last 30 min, but I was impressed by Tanner's display on the wing. Thought he was excellent going forwards. But being a RB, is he any decent in defence?

How did Burkhart do?
Did well for a debut, made a few really clever runs which weren't spotted and played on the shoulder of the defender looking to make runs in behind. Had 1 shot blocked from a few yards out with the keeper beaten and had a nice run and shot with the last kick of the game that was going into the bottom corner but was saved by the keeper. He's extremely quick over the first few yards and looks like he could do very well when the team gets used to playing with him.

Wasn't sure by the post whether you know or not but he's not naturally a right back, usually plays in CM/AM or on the wing which is likely why he impressed you going forward. I'm a fan of his, could turn out to be quite a player.

So another defeat against Liverpool at that level and it's not a good feeling to read the comments about the match here + Twitter :nervous:

At least great news that Burkart is now available......that means hopefully one less problem in the team.

Hopefully a couple of defenders and Barlow are fit for the next match.

And to replace McGuinness with Martin was really a brilliant idea
XI: Moutha-Sebtaoui - Tanner,Warren,M.Dunne,Hamilton - Sang,Whelan - Dearnley,Gomes,Chong - Buffonge
Subs: Burkhart,M.Johnstone,Boonen,Kenyon,Bohui
Why hasn't played Sang as right-back, Gomes in central midfield and Tanner as attacking midfielder
Gribbin and Barlow are the injured midfielders.
Even if Gribbin would be fit...do you really think he will or should play again for the U18's??

I mean we have Gomes, Dearnley, Chong, Buffonge, Bohui, Makela, Kenyon, Boonen & Tanner for the attacking midfield positions and only Makela is currently injured.

You are right, I wasn't aware that he isn't a right back. Still, impressed by him going forward. There was a point towards the end, he managed to save the ball from going out of play, burst forwards and lay an excellent ball (can't remember if to Boonen or Chong). Really good stuff.

Tell you what, I know he was the u18s' top scorer last season and some of the goals were really good finishes but as far as his overall game I wasn't that impressed, but going by how he's started this season he may well be a dark-horse to actually make it, got a really nice style of play and is developing well physically too now.

Do Roshaun Williams and Callum Gribbin play only for the U-23s now? Any other U-18 players not playing for the academy?
Both are injured at the moment as are Spratt, Barrett, Ercolani, Makela and Diederick-Roberts. Not sure whether they're injured or not but O'Connor and Barlow weren't involved yesterday either

I thought we looked a bit lightweight, got overrun in midfield, defence too fragile. I guess we are missing some players, so hopefully we will improve.
