:( thought he had a promising first season. Hope he gets better soon.

Very sad if true. He seems a great character, determined on the pitch and supporting causes off of it.

Hopefully next season he gets the chance to really kick on.

Wouldn't at all be surprised if that's accurate. I'm not one for 'conspiracy theories' in the least, and didn't indulge in reading or posting much about him, but the longer it went on the more it seemed likely that something unexpected had happened after we opted to send back Reguillon only for any news of Malacia's return to completely dry up.

Had it just been an injury recurrence, I don't know why the club wouldn't have been more up front about it. News was so sparse and guarded, that something private like mental issues seems a likely explanation.

If so, have full sympathy for him and hope he recovers quickly - physically and (if needed) mentally.

Knee injuries are a tough one as most of the rehabilitation is mental, being confident that the knee won't go again on you.

Read that too. Though don't really know the source.

Must do wonders for your mental health to have it announced like that.

Poor lad - hope he gets the support off the pitch he needs. Would love him to come back stronger and better than before.

Hopefully not career ending. He has a promising start last season and he comes across as a very likable character

yeah at this point just gotta move on from him. Highly doubt he has this many problems now at this age and somehow magically becomes a consistently available player in the future. Was a low cost punt just move on

His case is somewhat similar to Owen Hargreaves hope he recovers and gets back to playing football

What's the story with the Feyenoord tik tok posting a video of him ? Is he there?

Edit : it's an old video. Odd they posted it. Clever of their social media manager though.

Having a external specialist + a fair amount of travelling doesn't sound wise but wish him a speedy recovery.

Can’t help but feel sorry for him. Had a decent enough first season after his move here, and likely would have got a lot of game time this year and potentially established himself.

But due to his injuries and Shaws fitness, I reckon it’s probably curtains for Malacia.

I hope he manages to overcome the injury, and it not be a downward spiral like Owen Hargreaves' knee injury seemed to be. I'd also hope the mental health issues are just media speculation, but if true it's a real shame, and I hope he's getting the support he needs.

That aside, it seems a tad reckless to allow players to pick their own surgeons and let them get treatment and procedures outside of the club's oversight.

Why the hell is he regularly travelling to Barcelona?!?
Was going to ask the same thing - maybe better more efficient recovery in a slightly warmer climate…but you could go to other warmer climates!

He must have been on Redcaf and read Pogba topics. Posters here lost their mind because Pogba did his recovery in Dubai (?).

I saw this a while back and even though he said it as an aside, has it been accepted that his surgery/surgeries went badly?

He's said plenty in his comment and some of it is contradictory and sarcastic, like his 'but it's all ten Hags fault' but earlier in his post he states we have 8 injuries, which is the average for a PL team.

At a guess, complications probably arose post surgery with Malacia, maybe the new ligament wasn't taken to properly, or it was too short. I don't think we'll know the true extent but if they were botched with two players, serious questions need to be asked.

With his style of play and aggression, this is a real issue. Don't think he'll be factored into anything else whilst here and planned around. Guy needed to be 100% just to contest for PT, and had a lot to work on asides from that. This hindrance is a real sad one as he's probably done here before he could even try and make inroads and develop as a player.

Video of him back in the gym lifting weights and looking happy, which is great to see.

Would be great having him back, mostly to spare us from the horror show of AWB as an inverted fullback.

Based on how long he's been out, I imagine there is absolutely zero chance of him playing this season

Yep. Lifting weights is what he’s been doing all season. A long way to go unfortunately before he’s in full contact training with the rest of the team.

I imagine after all the set backs, he'll be grateful to get back to a decent level, let alone with us.

The misplaced hype around this guy is nuts. He's probably behind AWB and Dalot anyway... and that's saying something!

I love posts like this that just basically make up stuff. What misplaced hype? I've rarely heard Malacia referred to as anything more than a promising player who is a good backup.

What's the status on his injury? He's obviously missing the Euros (whether or not he'd have been involved) so in theory this summer should help him get steadily up to speed. But with having another crock at left back, wouldn't it be tempting to loan him out for a season and getting in another left back whether bought or loaned who is more reliable in terms of availability? I still bemoan that we gave Fernandez away.

Confirmed sighting of him today at Wembley. Not AI generated.
