Considering the price I think he was worth a gamble, you can see there's potential there. Far from the finished article though.

He looks like a real find judging from his few performances and the price paid. Pace, tenacity and technique are there to be a success.

I'm loving this lad.

It's great the way he beats the press by running with the ball into a better passing position. He doesn't just control the ball and stop. It's much harder to press a mobile player because the options keep changing.

He's good and scrappy too. Shaw has got some competition.

He's better than Telles that's for sure, so worth it alone.

Whether he will displace Shaw this year will be hard to say, but he's certainly good enough to rotate against easier sides.

He sure knows how to pass a ball. He’s looked very tasty so far. So comfortable on the ball. Shaw must be getting twitchy.

Yeah an I love how often he gets into quite central forward positions. He just gets everywhere.

I’ve noticed the positioning of full backs under ETH. Malacia and Dalot both come very central especially when we don’t have the ball. It’s when we press as a team they fill the midfield positions often.

Will have some bad games I'm sure while he's getting used to the prem, he has the occasional heavy touch but I think he'll end up being class. All the attributes are there and his attitude looks top class. So much better than Telles.

Thought he was fantastic in the first half. Passing through the lines and down the line to Martial and Rashford. Not as influential in the second half but probably his best game in a United shirt so far.

I like him, he understands how to play his position very well. Also like that he's comfortable receiving the ball in defence and in midfield.

He will make a few mistakes along the way but he's gotten better after each game.

Looked lively but needs to work on his crossing. The way he tucked in was very good as he seems used to ten hag's style already

Like the look of him. Maybe EtH is indeed better than United’s scouts at judging players.

Quite impressed with him. Didn't think we'd go for a LB, but I'm glad we got this lad. We didn't pay that much for him, but he looks good. Him and Rashford played well together in the first half.

Anyone still of the mind “why are we buying another LB”?

Don't think that's the opinion anyone shares. Just that this position was in no way of any priority. And I stand by that. It isn't. CM and - as shown today - more forwards are needed. Let's see what we are doing about that.

His passing, particularly his long passing, in this match was something that I haven't seen from him in the previous friendlies. Very impressive. I still see Shaw as our main guy if he is anywhere near his best, but if he struggles with form or fitness then Malacia definitely looks like he has the goods to step in.

Shaw will still have a lot of devotees
I’m sure he will but this lad is here to play not be a third wheel as some seem to think, I think we’ve generally got a bargain who will make this spot his own sometime through the season

We had to go for him as he was on the verge of going elsewhere

Oh well fair enough. That's not the point many myself included are making though. The point is we are going into the season with the same glaring holes in our squad that we had before the transfer window started. We got some decent reinforcement in but not in positions of priority. Which is a bit of a shame.

I really really like him, has all the right attributes and most importantly the right attitude , he's already pushed down telles in the pecking order in my eyes and I could actually see him becoming first choice this very season if shaw couldn't be bothered.

Seems like he has the actual physicality to get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes. Which would make him our only fullback capable in the past 3 years or so. Shaw even at his best was always lax going back, Telles runs in slow motion, and Aaron Jogbacka. Dalot sort of can, I guess.

Oh I get that point for sure. I just think it’s a shame some are mixing up our purchase of him as somehow meaning we won’t go for others.he cost very little so it shouldn’t be seen as one or the other

The right type of signing. A player who’s good under pressure.

I hope ten Hag has a good idea of Feyenoord’s and the Netherlands youth players as they have another gem. Guus Baars looks like another Timber. For a cb, he is incredible on the ball.

Very inward cutting. I wonder if we go for an inward RB and keep Dalot as our wider option.

Me.

I like the look of this lad but he’s done nothing to make Shaw worry for his place, providing Shaw can regain his best form. Obviously the competition will hopefully make that more likely but wasn’t that the same logic behind us signing Telles? Do we really need yet another LB to light a fire behind Shaw’s (large) arse?

He has very good technique and is a sweet striker of the ball. Was really impressed by his long passes and delivery of the ball from corners.

He seems to have a really good engine on him and is pretty decent defensively as well. He is far more polished and further along the development path than most full backs are at his age.

If he keeps his head down and keeps improving, this could be the signing of the season, and more importantly, our LB spot would be set for years.

Shaw is 27 and always injured. Shaw fit is good and the starter still of course, but with the frequency of his injuries, we needed an adequate backup/competition and eventual replacement. Telles is horrible and really wasn't up to it.

With Malacia, price is low, potential is huge.
