Twinjuries

He wasn't, it was quite an even battle. We just need to be patient with them, I am certain they'll get over it.

Even? If you say so. The ref was very lenient with him. He could and probably should have been booked much sooner than he was.

Their injury problems are ridiculous.

Also I could have put money on Rafael getting injured...Fergie forgets that injury prone players like Hargreaves/Rafael need to be fed back into game time, not thrown into the starting lineup and see how long they last because its always going to end up this way.

I'm wincing at every little challenge at this stage. Hopefully they'll get a run together soon.

Yep, Fergie doesn't know how to handle players who return from injuries. Nor does he have people who'll tell him who is ready and who isn't.

Give me a break.

Fabio must hold the all time record for the number of times a Manchester United player has had to be substituted due to injury. Which is quite impressive really when you consider that he's only 21 and has made less than 50 appearances.

It's strange how the can fly in, bouncing off turf and players in all sorts of awkward and wince-inducing ways only to be perfectly fine, then get injured through something innocuous.

It's such a huge concerns with these 2.

They simply can't be relied upon to finish games for us.

how bad is the twins injury? This is beyond a joke.

So what are you saying Fergie does not know who to handle his players

It's beginning to be a serious concern and could damage their long term future here. It's gone past the point of being funny, they're just constantly getting injured.

I don't think it's a concern yet, it's just really fecking annoying. There's a number of players who went through injury-hit periods and recovered to be near ever-presents for a number of seasons thereafter - Gerrard in his late teens and Giggs in his early/mid 20s, for example. It doesn't mean they'll be like this for the rest of their career (nor does it mean they won't, of course).

Seeing Rafael go off after Fabio signalling that he thought he'd torn something was the biggest disappointment of the night for me.

Injuries are often the main barrier in converting potential into world class talent, and unfortunately that's exactly what will happen here.

For now I think it's just down to a mixture of their combative playing style and slightly smaller stature. And maybe genetics.

However, the moment they start picking up the same exact injuries as their twin...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Giggs almost always injured because of his hamstring? The twins seem to pick of all sort of injuries. Hamstring, dislocated shoulder etc. etc.

With Vidic out for the season we really need at least one of the twinjuries to get a decent run of games under their belt.

Am I imagining it or has Rafael managed this in the past? The way I remember it, Fabio was always made of glass but Rafael wasn't quite so injury prone.

Yeah, Rafael seemed to be the sturdier type but it sort of makes sense that they are both made of glass, what with the same DNA and all that.

It's really beyond belief. I've lost count of the number of games one of them(or both) have been taken off because of injuries.

Why do we struggle as much with injuries, across the squad? Can't be all bad luck, can it?

We are in such a "catch 22" situation in regard to the Fullback positions at our club at the moment.

On one hand we have the Da Silva twins that undoubtably have the talent to nail down the left and right fullback positions for the best part of the next decade.

On the other hand they appear to be some fecked up result of a one night stand between Owen Hargreaves and Darren Anderton! Injury prone doesn't really sum them up right now!

So what do we do then? Do we take a gamble on their fitness and keep playing centre backs in full back positions in the hope that the Da Silva boys will grow out of their injury issues? Or do we go out and spend money (what money eh?) on a couple of reliable specialist players?

I think when I checked yesterday Rafael has managed 15 league games in a season (plus cup, CL etc) while Fabio has at best managed 5 league games or 5 CL games in the past 2 seasons.

Rafael has had a bad run of injuries but his record before this season suggests there is hope for him. Fabio on the other hand, we clearly cannot count on

I'd really like us to get a left back to compete with Evra as more often than not, when Fabio plays Sir Alex picks him on the right anyway.

Once I was insulted in here for saying that the Da Silva twins are unreliable because they are injury prone. How things change.

Having one season where you have multiple injury problems doesnt really make you injury prone does it?

They arent the same player. Fabio is most certainly injury prone but Rafael has shown he can play his part over a season

Instantly Fabio has more than that because he got a league winners medal.

From memory Rafael has had two 28 appearance seasons and the other was 09/10 when he didn't play much.

Rafael
08/09 = 28
09/10 = 16
10/11 = 28

Fabio
08/09 = 2
09/10 = 11
10/11 = 25

We are a different team with a fit Rafael.

His defending is underrated and showed so much improvement last year on diving in too much and rash challenges.

He kept some talented and pacey wingers quiet and we all know how good both are at going forward.

Very true. I think his contribution is "overlooked" or at the very least, I believe he would've made a difference to us in the past month or two. Jones and Smalling have both done well when filling in, but Rafael is a natural in the position, and is for me a step above both there.

Completely agree.

And he's a round peg for a round hole, that always helps!

I know and I love them for that, especially seeing as it's never really been something that's caused them much bother :)

I'm hoping they'll grow out of it. Fabio's participation as only been increasing the past few seasons, and let's not forget he was on right back last May against Barcelona, and was sounder than Evra, as I recall (potentially wrongly, mind).

Rafael's gave us a debut season with far more participation and solid play than we ever expected from him, then he played a bit less the next season and had a decent stint before a troublesome spring last season. It's not really worrying me that much, yet... They're not the biggest lads, and they're still quite young and it's the Premiership, not Brazil... I still trust them to adjust. And we have ever reason to persist with them for a few more seasons, because when they play they're incredibly exciting to watch. Going forward you can't fault either of them, both often managing in a game to have a run that takes them from their own half deep into the opposition box, and who can forget how they both combined against Arsenal in the cup last season
