This is not about criticising Jaffer, whether he is better or worse than "my own players" is not the issue. It's whether he is better or worse than Mongia. I'm just wondering why Mongia was not given a go when it seems to me that Mongia's technique is better than Jaffer's. Jaffer was given a run in the side when his scores were pretty low (he averages 20 in tests) and Mongia was scoring well in Indian Domestic Cricket so why was he never given a go? I'm not the only one who thinks this way either. Friends of mine who support India and follow the Indian First Class game far more closely than I do also believe that Mongia should have been given a chance. They say he was more suited to the longer game than the shorter version and they believe he is one of the best batsman in Indian Domestic cricket apart from the obvious ones (Dravid, Tendulker etc).
From what I've seen of the pair on TV and in person at ODIs and Tests in this country (and again my more knowledgable in this area friends agree with me) Mongia looks to be the player whose technique is better so all I'm saying was why was Mongia never given a go?
That's my point... He was given a run in the ODI side when it seems his game is far more suited to the longer version of the game. I'm just surprsed he was never given a go in what seems his prefferred format when the likes of Wasim Jaffer were...
Eh? I don think mongia has any chance of opening the innings.
We have sehwag and chopra , yuvraj showed he can play there as well.
Dont get too excited over his perfomances , county cricket is shit

I don't think he'll make it now that better players are there. And I'm not just judging on CC. Like I said I've watched him play in ODIs as well and he always looked to have the technique to succeed in tests and that's an attitude mirrored by friends of mine who have seen him play First Class cricket in India. Whether CC is shit or not it's still obvious to see his technique is high quality. Even against poor county opposition I can tell his technique is solid just like I can tell that Dravid and Ponting have good technique even when they play Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Quality shines through no matter what the opposition.
