Some shows get canned too early, others go on too long. What shows do you think went on for too long?

Scrubs- even though the 8th season was good, the latter seasons weren't nearly as good as 1-4. 9 was absolute trash.

The Office- last season started the decline. This season it's continuing. Just end it.

Without a doubt "Lost" for me.At some point it got fecking ridiculous with going back and forth time.
The first season was good but they screwed up the rest

Agree with you there, should have had a story arch in mind and stuck to it. Not have a couple of filler seasons followed by a rushed ending.

I'll be the first to say it, The Simpsons.

Good thread, and to be honest I think most shows go on too long. I still love The Simpsons and South Park but both are past their best. Even shows like Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives were reasonably interesting for 1 season when they had a core narrative thread and plot - then they devolved into shite.

Nah, I think South Park's still decent. But yeah definitely Simpsons. Lost is the other obvious one as well.

LOST wasn't long enough :(

Thus is the way of American television, the first season will be great and if it gets popular they have to find ways to milk it for all it's worth.

It even happens in Britain, it looks like Hustle is starting to go that way.

Babylon 5
Iam a huge B5 fan and have watched it many many time , but S5 was not the best.
Should of stopped at S4 and done some more about the Shadows and where they came from and got there tech and also more on the Vorlons.

That was in part due to the TV companies over there though mucking JMS about with dropping the series. He had to rush to finish the shadows story arc in series 4 in case it didn't go to a 5th series. That was one of the reasons Ivanova wasn't in series 5 as well as by time it was given the go ahead the actress had decided to do something else due to the uncertainty of not knowing if series 5 was going ahead.

Most of my picks already mentioned. Lost ended 4 season too late IMO.
X-Files another one. Went on at least 3 seasons more than it should. Simpsons has been awful for the past decade. Dont agree with South Park though, its still as funny as ever and the last 6 seasons have been probably a lot better than its 1st 6 seasons

The original run of Doctor Who, really should have ended after Peter Davison left.

Prison Break.

Noooooo!

Wish they would've made more seasons of it. Though, the "we have a big plan, then we feck it up, but somehow miracolously still survive" situations got out of hands in the latter seasons.

Only Fools and Horses
The Sopranos
The Shield

Season 7 of the latter was a pure classic but Season 6 was a bit anti-climatic
Post Lem they only needed one season

I have to disagree - season 7 was pretty poor but I really enjoyed season 8.

I thought season 8 was worse than season 7! Season 8 had one good episode in "krytie", season 7 had two episodes which were good. Both were still really poor when you compare it to season 6 or even the eariler seasons. And the least said about season 9 (back to earth) the better

It really should have stopped after season 6...

Back on topic, for me SG1 should have stopped around season 6/7, and SGA went on for 5 seasons too long.

Sopranos went on one series too long, was decent but didn't end on a high for me.

The Wire I thought was just getting ridiculous towards the end, the complete opposite to how it started out.

Season 8 was meant to be the last season of SG-1 - the proper final episode is Moebius Part 2, which ends with them all fishing at O Neill's pond.

What became season 9 and 10 (with Cam Mitchell and Vala) was initially pitched as a spinoff to be called Stargate Command which Sci Fi (Or SyFy as they call themselves now) would only accept it if they labelled it SG-1.

Season 2 of The Sopranos was the greatest Season ever, of any TV show. It was great after but aspects of the last season wre run of the mill for me.

The Wire was awesome from beginning to end however. That show and Breaking Bad (so far) are the only two series that are beyond reproach.

Dam that sucks, SG1 really went down in my books after watching season 9 and 10. Season 8 was pushing it but i thought that that last ep tied everything up nicely. Still they should have ended it at season 8 and not added the last two seasons

The last season of The Wire was nowhere near as good as earlier ones, the whole thing with

McNulty creating the serial killer

was just ridiculous, and I didn't particularly like the closing.
