Trialists

Just seen that Laing lad is 21 and being released by Sunderland. Bit odd we'd be in for him. Likely to just spend a season in the reserves to allow Keane and Thorpe to move on loan?

Yep, a short term deal similar to Jeffrey Schlupp's I would think.

Martin Ødegaard has signed professional terms with Stømsgodset and won't be going anywhere this summer.

Yeah he could join Ashley fecking Young in the squad.

Scored his first league goal yesterday after coming on as a late sub and became the youngest goalscorer in the Norwegian top flight of all time by almost a year.

Great link up play and a determined finish (at 1:45): http://www.vgtv.no/#!/video/82139/martin-oedegaard-15-ble-tidenes-yngste-maalscorer-i-tippeligaen (don't know if it works outside Norway)

Anyway: This young man is something very, very special. By the looks of it he's the best talent to come out of Norwegian football ever, even Dæhli taken into consideration.

Say what you want about the level of Tippeligaen, but he's dominating for the reigning champions at the age of 15 (!).

Not anything against Ødegaard but Dæhli is a much smaller lad at the same age.

Yep, his size has allowed him to get involved so early in a way that Daehli's never could have because he's so tiny. Still, very impressive to be playing senior football at 15, take nothing away from that. Looks like a great talent.

Some new names in this weeks batch of trialists.
Joao Virginia Benfica Goalkeeper
Felix Ferahyan KUPS Goalkeeper
Joao Filipe Benfica Winger
Ogo Obi Watford Striker

Ogo Obi looks huge. Almost the same size as Onouha.

Anyone know if we signed Laing? Found it unusual that we were looking at him, thought it might another De Laet type of signing.

Edit: Nevermind, just found out that he signed with Nottingham Forest on a 1-year deal..

Ogo Obi was on trial with Anderlecht at the end of last month as well.

Joao Filipe is number 17 in this video

and 11 in this video

4:01 he must have danny's poster on the wall..
anyway he looks like new Baines. Wonder how many of these trialists finally end up in United. Not a big percent of them.. but this one looks really promising and we will need a new left back in reserves once James steps up to the first team and Blackett will be offloaded or loaned out again..

We have over 100 trialists each season.Of course only a small percentage will be signed.

Is that all age groups? Would the 15-16 age group have the most trialists? It seems to be the group all of the reported ones are in.

All the groups.Usually the media only report the foreign ones but there're many British on trial in every age group.

Martin Ødegaard continues to set the Norwegian league alight and there's a growing campaign for his inclusion in the next national squad.

^^No, they don't. The only mention of Real Madrid and 12 million is with regards to a hypothetical scenario set up by twitter aficionado Tor-Kristian Karlsen. He's basically saying that the focus of Ødegaard's next move should be on development rather than money and status. Real Madrid is actually one of the few major clubs that haven't shown an interest in him.

Anyhow; his dad says he'll be doing another round of trials after the Norwegian season ends in November. At this stage it's pretty much Martin trying out clubs rather than the other way around and it will be interesting to see if he comes back to United for yet another trial, or if he feels he knows the club well enough already, as he needs to prioritize which clubs to visit.

Lucan United's Michael Dilger will have a trial with United this week
