Trent Alexander Arnold | Real Madrid working on deal (Ornstein)

Yeah he's struck gold assuming he does go - not only getting to play for Madrid but in a perfect setup with one of the best midfielders in the world able to cover his ass defensively every week.

If he thinks about his career, this is a move he needs to make.

He was a top player under Klopp because he had the freedom, had 3 workhorses in midfield, Henderson and Fabinho used to cover him. Since then, under Slott, he is asked to cover himself and he has struggled.

At Madrid, he will have Valverde, Tchouameni, Cammavinga who can all cover and he can be expansive.

Also, lets be honest, having Trent find Mbappe will impressive, Mbappe will make runs and Trent will find him.

Excellent singing for madrid. They have workhorses in midfield but lacks a bit of creativity.

That's an exaggeration for Madrid in La Liga, it'll mainly be in the CL imo and the odd Classico here and there.

Well there's rumours about the likes of Camavinga leaving, and I don't think Tchouameni's had a great season for them when he's played in midfield.

IMO he's the one that should start most weeks in a midfield pairing as he's been excellent, particularly considering the sort of midfielder you need in that RCM spot if you have Trent in the team.

EDIT: Read your post again and think I've completely misinterpreted what you were saying. I thought you'd meant Valverde wouldn't be a regular starter. But yeah you're right, most weeks in La Liga they're just going to dominate the ball and neither he nor whoever is playing at RCM alongside him will have to worry too much about what's behind them.

For what it's worth also, I personally think Trent is a bit better defensively than most give him credit for. Particularly this season he's been better, but obviously this is a United board and he was garbage off the ball in the 2-2 at Anfield so that's the performance that's used as a gauge.

i cant believe hes only 26 years old. He always has looked older and hes been around for like 20 years hasnt he

I think Bradley is an excellent prospect and will slot in well. Good defensive basics and good going forward
Aye, teams just seem to be producing really decent fullbacks (Arsenal, Pool, Chelsea etc.) but we seem to find it difficult to do the same! I think Laird was really highly rated, but injuries (iirc) impacted him quite a bit.

Then we let Alvaro go. Here's hoping Amass can step up and be an important member of the squad in the future.

It sounds like Liverpool are getting Kerkez so with him and Bradley they will have similar replacements to Trent and Robertson, just the opposite way round.

Me too - they're obviously just going to have to adapt the way they play a bit given he's a much more traditional type of up-and-down full back (although I've seen a few highlights where he's made decent runs infield into a #10 sort of position so maybe that's going to be something he can do as well a bit).

They've been able to get away with a largely functional midfield setup with Trent in the team when you think about the Fabinho/Hendo/Wjjnaldum midfield and now the Gravenberch/Mac Allister/Szoboszlai or Jones iteration, but I sense they'll need a bit more creativity from the AM in particular without him.

Madrid signing another 60m+ player on a free (I know they paid a massive signing on bonus to Mbappe).

The world just isn't fair :(
They're in the best team in the world, doesn't take much to convince players to join them.

Yep absolutely they will lose that creativity so yeah I’d expect them to have to look at the midfield and the attackers to replace it

Madrid's tactic seems to be buy them either young to become superstars and get the big players on a free which is great. But wasn't it Wenger who said something like this would happen eventually due to rising transfer costs and player power i.e. players leaving on free's

Either way, good move for him and signing for Madrid

Is the plan to also get Alonso and play 352? I don't think I've seen Trent as a wing back. He doesn't fit that typical flying wing back mould ala Frimpong so I'm curious what they're planning.

A shame - he's probably one of the main reasons they've won so little over the last 8-9 years despite being one of the 'best' teams around.

I think Ancelotti stays another year

I think sometimes they don't have a specific plan about how the player will play in a given system. They add quality players that can perform in different positions and roles and let the manager sort it out.

This is absolutely hilarious, imagine walking towards the league and “one of your own” still cannot wait to get the f*ck out of there, embarrassing for them.

Maybe time to call those mobsters who threaten Gerrard into staying?

It’s Real Madrid, no free player would reject them.

Why do you think Alonso as manager would mean playing 352? He usually has Leverkusen line up in a 3421 or 4231, and he isn't insisting on a specific system. He would use a system that fits the squad, however that will look.

Pool really gonna lose their 3 best players for free in 1 summer? Surely that's unacceptable management, even Woodward wouldn't allow that.

Alphonso Davies just did.
Ok fair enough but point being Real Madrid is a bigger club than Liverpool, the biggest in the world, no shame in that, says more about the player really.

Some people really are too emotionally invested in football. "Negotiating with Madrid this whole time" as if he's having Teams meetings with Ancelotti every other night during the season. I hope the overwhelming majority of fans and especially match-going fans will give him a proper farewell.
