So we are linked with every player on the planet and redcafe thinks they are all shit.

To be fair the ones we are linked with are, bar De Jong.

It's like a world's trashfest convention, Morata is garbage but unlike the other 2 he's not problematic, if we're just looking for an extra body I guess he's the best of a bad bunch on loan, we shouldn't be actually buying any of this shite.

I'd guess Memphis would win a poll between him, Morata, Aubameyang and Icardi?

Cheaper as well.
Would rather have Morata, personally. Decent goal return, and doesn't have an insufferable ego like Memphis & Auba. Icardi will probably end up trying to shag one of the other player's wives, so not keen on him for the sake of squad harmony.

Athletico are desperate to get rid of some players including Morata who’s contracted to 2024. We absolutely need a striker but I’d argue that a RW is more important as of how things are right now, however Morata can surely improve us as a team.

A loan bid paying 100% of his salary and £5m + a buy option of 15 end of the season if successful. Suits all parties.
Take it or leave it.

It shouldn't really be a dramatic shock that we haven't started some of our transfer work before ETH was able to review his team during pre-season. We got some already, and I'm sure we'll get more. There's also the fact we were holding on as long as we could for FDJ which makes sense if there was an opportunity to do so. With that in mind, I'm not worried about the fact we're heading into match week 2 (especially when the World Cup pushed the start of the season two weeks earlier than normal).

What does concern me is the calibre of some of the players we've been going for, but I'll reserve judgement until signings are actually made on that end. If we get either FDJ or SMS, I'll be pretty happy with those signings. Rabiot doesn't inspire me in any way, but if he's cheap, at least it means competition for places if anything.
Agreed. I've never seen SMS play though so can't agree/disagree there.

As I said from the start of the summer, I'll judge things based on what the club has done on the pitch and in the window when it shuts.

I don't mind Utd waiting on FDJ etc but how they've got this far into the window without doing the easy deal like a 2nd string goalie blows my mind. Even under Woodward, we'd get those ones done early.
We were interested in a few but didn't pull the trigger. Why? I don't know. Could be due to Henderson.

The Henderson interview has changed the focus on the type of goalie to sign, however.

No idea why we haven't been linked to Jonathon David, he's by far the best striker available. Only other thing I'd consider a similar deal would be Depay on the cheap
If we sign him it would be for the first XI. Any attacker we're signing this window is gonna be a backup to Ronaldo/Martial, Rashford and Sancho.

So David is for next summer.

Are we paying the same price Chelsea did?
At this point, we are not worried about the price but the right quality of players. It's clear that we are losing our standards and targeting players we wouldn't have targeted if not for our incompetence.

I'd rather we went for Broja, seems worth a punt at 30 odd million, fast, physical, hard working and can finish, ticks lots of boxes and potential for growth as a player.

Rather we got 1-2 loan players than long term panic buys.
This. Last thing we need is more deadwood on high wages that we'll struggle to shift for years. I'd go as far as to say I'd rather write off this season entirely, work with what we have (if we can't get some loans in), and begin planning for next year's transfers (preferably without Murtough around).

And spurs had the sense to take kulusevski on loan first, see no harm with us doing the same with rabiot and with kulusevski he looked brilliant player at parma, don't think the same can be said for rabiot who has always come across as an ok player but not stand out

We aren't savvy enough to ask for loan

I don't understand why my fellow United fans think we are above signing players on loan? These days it's shrewd business.

I know people will say none but which is the best option out of those three

I’d say Aubamayang but even then I remember how bad he was towards the end at Arsenal

The other two are just crap and pretty much always have been.

Out of all the players we've been linked with im most excited by SMS. Really hope we get him!

I’m saying Morata purely because he has the ability to boil some scouse piss as we saw in the champions league a couple years ago.

He is a quality player. I get why people didn’t want him when the fee mentioned was €100m a few years back but for the rumoured fee now being discussed (€65-70m) he’d be very good.

A team with Rabiot and SMS would have real physicality and size in the middle of the park without compromising on technical ability. We’d be a threat from set pieces as well.

Morata. His all round play is good. Finishing is what is lacking but we have Ronaldo for that. If we could do a loan it wouldn't be the worst move

Plays for Celtic. Here's some of their fans' take:

Don't think I've ever seen him play but those quotes sound very promising. Not sure how much stock you can put into the opinion of fans of the SPL though. The level isn't particularly high. I've never liked Aarons despite all the hype around him. Always looks either average or poor to me when he's played in the PL. KWP is decent. I'd probably take him if the price was reasonable.

Totally agree. Lots of clubs do this, notably Spurs did it last January to great effect. I wouldn't personally have a problem with Morata on loan. Signing him permanently is another story though. A rb on loan wouldn't be a bad idea either. Not sure which players would realistically be available on loan but I'm sure there are some potential gems. Club needs to find them.

I agree, we need to bring in stop gaps, but not be lumbered with them long term. It'll leave the club in a bit of a hole when Ronaldo's contract is up and a loanee returns to their parent club, but maybe then we'll have a player ready to step into the reserve slot leaving a No1 striker top priority.

What this United side is severely lacking is a forward who doesn't score.

I keep seeing the list of strikers then think, Morata wouldn’t be bad compared to the alternatives, then I remember how shit he actually is. The difference between him and the others (Arnautovic, Icardi, Auba, Depay) is he doesn’t have an attitude problem, in addition to being shit.

Feck this summer.

I think Morata is a very good player and superior to what we have right now. Hope we get him.

  • Paris Saint-Germain’s Leandro Paredes rejected a chance to join Manchester United earlier this summer
  • The offer was pegged back, as the Argentine wants to join Juventus only and he has been waiting for the Bianconeri since May

A slightly concerning thing is most of these players we have been cocking our nose up would constitute a very good window for Ajax and would probably rip up the the Dutch league.
Agreed. Ajax have a history in nurturing raw talent too. We do have a bad track record in that area in recent years

So - ETH only wants players whose main objective is to stay with Barcelona ? :)
