Romano putting this tweet out as an exclusive when all the reporters have put out the same story.
He was the first one to say that there would be a meeting today, this new tweet isn't all that exclusive however which makes the use of exclusive here a bit odd.

De Jong wants his money and I don't blame him. Call their bluff, he holds all the power - they need him off the books, they can't afford to continue on his current wage, he isn't going to drop his wage (I doubt he'll accept anymore deffered wages).

We'll probably pay Barca's debt in wages if they drop thier asking price. So just let Barca sweat now, even if it's until the final week of the window. Eriksen will give us something in midfield, Tielemans and Neves are lined up ready - so i'm quite chill about the saga.
very much agree with this one. what do you expect De Jong to say? that i want to leave for MU? it's like saying to Barca you can't forget the salary you owed to me. I will move to MU anyway. De Jong's side need to create this bluff to force Barca to pay what they owed or they will have to continously pay De Jong at current wage + what they owed. Also it's safer for De Jong (in fans' perspective) in case he stays at Barca to say he wants to stay due to its his dream club (while in fact I believe he has told us that he will definitely join us should Barca have paid what they owed). I believe this could be dragging until trf deadline day. If no others club interested in FdJ (and willing to cover owed salary), Barca will definitely sell FdJ to us by lowering the fee and us to pay FdJ what Barca owed.

Regarding de Jong, remember that it's all about the narrative.

Pay no attention to the "Goodbye seems imminent", which is coming from AS. The story from Mundo Deportivo (see image below) is more pertinent.

This is from Edu Polo, so this is reliable, but keep in mind that he'll also push out whatever Barcelona tells him to.

Edu Polo reports that Barcelona can't even register both Kessié and Christensen (despite announcing them), so selling de Jong will help them to some extent. Barcelona's execs along with Xavi have invited de Jong to evaluate United's offer. Despite that, de Jong doesn't want to take the fall for Barcelona's financial issues and still wishes to stay.

We'll see how long that lasts for. Meanwhile, both Arnold and Murtough left Barcelona in order to seal the Martinez transfer in Amsterdam.

I think there is an element of de Jong not wanting to burn any bridges with the supporters, as we may think a return to Barca is on the cards if ten Hag fails at United. All the while Barca are setting him up to look like the greedy Dutchman who only cares money. There are several moving parts to this and it won’t be resolved anytime soon.

Laurie Whitwell has just been on Stretford Paddock to say that FdJ wants to come to United. His source is almost certainly Manchester United-related.

The news about FdJ having no intention of leaving is coming from Spain and is likely to be from a source that's Agent-related.

I think the truth is that United have assurance behind the scenes that the player is willing to come. But, for the purposes of the negotiation about wages between Frenkie and Barca, he wants the media to report that he wants to stay.

Interesting about Barcelona being unable to register them. How then is Kessie they playing in Barcelona's pre season/friendly tonight?

Fingers crossed. Would be such an important signing.

Is it not just that La Liga wont let them register players until certain conditions are made with regards toBarca’s finances?

Kalajdzic on his future:
My advisor knows the status. I’m here quite normally and my focus is on VfB. It’s not an issue that my mind wanders. I just think from training session to training session, I’ll push everyone and I want to have fun with my friends. In the last few years, every club has been associated with me. It doesn’t leave me cold now, but it doesn’t bother me as much as it used to. [In the end, it’s about] finding the best possible solution for all parties.

Also from this article (thanks to @Adnan in the Frenkie de Jong thread):

The exact sentence (the typo is his, not mines):
Sources have told ESPN that United are convinced the Dutchman does want to Old Trafford despite claims in Spain that he is against the transfer and would rather stay at Barcelona or join a team in the Champions League.

I forgot to reply to this earlier, but based on this, it seems like Laurie was giving his opinion more so than stating something affirmative.

The way I see it is of course FdJ is open to joining United, but he and his team are in a battle with Barcelona over outstanding wages and bonuses.

I imagine he has certain obligations and loyalty bonuses in his contract so he won’t be asking for a transfer or pushing for a move, even though I’m sure he fully intends on leaving.

Both sides are trying their best to control the narrative. The funny thing is I think both sides know that there is absolutely no way FdJ can continue at Barcelona. It’s a matter of seeing who blinks first.

I’m 99.9% sure he will be a United player this summer.

As much as i want FDJ at Utd, it is a bit crap of Barcelona to treat him this way. They want him gone for financial reasons or because he doesnt fit their requirements going forwards then fine. Don't feck around. Give him what he's owned and get on with it.

So many people are talking utter shite about De Jong. United clearly drive as many clicks as ever

I don't know if Youtube links are allowed in here, but Whitewell's exact words in his interview on Stretford Paddock are: "I was told that he was open to the move. You know, there's other people that are saying, you know, he kind of needs to be a little bit more convinced."

It's at 9:51 on the video that was released today.

Oh, this is new! Thanks for posting it.

By the way, you can post YouTube videos, but they won't show up in the feed.
