Surely even you would admit that Fergie was badly hamstrung by that "No Value in the Market" stuff from 2009-2013". You look only have to see the players we missed out on in that period like Aguero, Silva, Sneijder, Benzema etc.
I think United will bring someone in if the Sancho deal doesn't come to fruition but I think that particular player would likely be a loan signing *cough* Dembele.
I also think the majority of transfer this window will be loan based,between the top and small clubs.

Obviously we could've spent more, but you'd have to be pretty fecking thick to believe that the problem is we haven't spent more money instead of what we've spent money on.
The past 5 years we've spent £140mill more than Liverpool and we've got feck all to show for it.
My point is a club of our size and standing should be on a level playing field from an ownership perspective with the likes of our biggest rivals in Europe. Rivals who will actually laugh now when they hear us call them rivals because in the absence of SAF this ownership has presided over our fall from grace whilst they fill their pockets.
Of course we could have done better with the money we've spent, that much is painfully obvious, but they make the appointments, it's their mess, and my point is they still take money out of the club that could be better spent in recruitment or any department for that matter.

Left-field opinion here but cant we come to some pre-agreement with BVB for next season ,regarding the transfer of Sancho, and have this summer solely focused on enhancing the quality within the squad while continuing moving on the so-called deadwood ?
Most of ours know they're not up to the task and I suspect they'd jump at the opportunity for a move somewhere even half decent.
I think you have to factor in wages for their deadwood too along with the apparent expectations they have. Where exactly does Rakitic think he's going to end up? And Umiti, whilst decent, makes Phil Jones look reliable, fit and healthy. The less said about Vidal the better, his moments are waaay behind him, he's a parody of himself these days in that he just wants to come on and look for a fight when he gets on the pitch and is usually blowing out of his arse after a few minutes.
The only one with any prospects is Dembele and he's known for being troublesome and injury prone, he's also on £240k pw before bonuses. For a lad that hasn't proven himself at any kind of level and who people still talk of potential with... no thanks.
Adding Sancho not only adds a starting right forward, but also a back up to Rashford on the left forward spot or alternative at #10 to Bruno. If Ole doesn't trust the likes of Mata, Pereira, Lingard or James, then it might still be a thin squad but the options are still much better.
No chance Ole will be able to continue this rebuild next season then if that happens

There's no reason we couldn't get players the ilk of Douglas Costa, van der beek, a left back and centre back. Instead of looking at overpriced players like Grealish we should be picking off the clubs in the foreign market who have been hard hit and need cash. You can get an absolute quality player in this climate for 30-40mil.
