The hate for James from some of you lot is mind boggling. He's a good player, can be devastating on his day. His confidence has taken a knock. He looked great for Wales in the last set of internationals in an environment where he feels maybe less under the spotlight. I thought he made a great start last season. That was the ruination of him. Since then, Pigba gets an easier ride. He's a kid up from the championship who needs time. Is he ultimately going to be good enough for us? Probably not. No need for the bile though.

If we end up with a poor season I reckon the board would rather sack ole and bring in a new manager rather than to take the blame.
If they ever did take blame, they'd have learnt many years ago and do things differently. I just can't see that happening.
I can't see how United can be letting all these players go (or freezing them out like Smalling, Rojo and Jones) without any plans to buy new ones. I'm expecting Monday to be madness.....or there will be blood!
I can't remember one performance where i've thought this since this time last year.
I love James, and was incredibly excited about him after his start with us, but he's looking more and more limited every time he played.
He started off here as a raw player with an incredible asset in his speed. Now that opposition knows a little more about him he's still a raw player that struggles to impact a game.
Still have't written him off mind, just feels he needs a loan to develop as we can't afford to give him a place if we want to challenge.

that’s not strictly true. He was told last season he was no longer first choice and asked to leave for first team football.
Regardless of whether they sack Ole or not, it doesn't alter the fact that they need to buy new players. So recruiting a new manager may give them a bit of a reprieve but the issue will just come back to the fore sooner or later.

I said yesterday that I thought Leeds would have been the better club for him. He would have got a bit more time and as they were scouting him anyway they might have used him better. He could have flourished at a top Championship club and now be ready for the PL. That didn't happen, he came to a club where the manager kept playing him in the wrong position and as you say in the process his confidence is shot to bits. There is a good player there that needed developing, we haven't done that.
I agree. Even his fabled pace hasn’t been on show. I keep waiting for him to take on his full back and he just can’t get by anyone.
Of course the problem will still be there, a new manager will come in, instead of seeing he has some good players and buying to carry on the process and make us better, he will rip it all up to prove a point and we will be back at square one again.
Every year we go through the same thing hoping, as the deadline approaches, for a quick flurry of business despite knowing that agreeing and completing a deal in a couple of days is something Utd have not been able to do the last X amount of years. I'm not getting my hopes up because at most I can see them getting the Telles deal over the line, but only if it is agreed today or tomorrow.
And thus the cycle continues.
I just don’t think he has the technical quality to be good enough. Maybe somebody like Guardiola could teach him to poach the way Sterling does or Pedro did at Barca but those guys are far superior players.
He has no qualities as far as I can see. Good at crossing? No. Good at dribbling? No. Good at passing? No. Good at shooting? No. Clever off the ball runs? No.
What does he have other than tactical discipline and work rate?
Lingard for all his faults is twice as good as Dan James.
A £8m profit on Dan James would be amazing. I would snap Leeds hands off regardless, but probably bollocks though.

Some of the U21 from last seasons are now considered senior, so our squad size is over the limit. We need to trim even if we can't get more players in. So don't get your hope up.

So Roma are embarrassed by United wanting the market value for a player. Trying to shame a club into accepting a cheaper deal, I’ve seen it all now. Pay up or feck off to another target or wait a few months. Whole thing is tedious, Mike has a price United will sell for, pay it or don’t.
100%. Whilst I’m sure we’ve not handled it perfectly, this boils down to Roma wanting to pay less than Smalling’s value.

Maybe one of the newspapers needs to interview the powers that be at the european powerhouses and see what their opinion is of Ed, Matt and Co. Not quoting a source at the club, but the actual name of the person giving the opinion. A bit of humiliation for these clowns would not go amiss. People saying that these clubs will still want to do business with us, these clubs don't seem to have any problems finding alternative players elsewhere.
Sell, sell, sell. If this a legit offer and we refuse then that right there sums up why we are always so bad in offloading players, waiting way too long in hope someone might come good based on a few odd spells of looking like a competent united player, same happened with lingard, there was opportunities where we could have got at least 30 million for basically a squad player but now look where that blind faith has got us with him.

This is the sort of stuff I was talking about yesterday. It’s very likely the club will not sell him as we must wring out all possibility of him being actually good, and only when he is confirmed to be a bit tosh will we kick him to the curb. By then, of course, it’s too late to reap back a sensible transfer fee.
(working on the assumption this news is true, though I do think it’s clear that Bielsa and Leeds have had widespread interest in James).
Making £10M profit on a player who will never be anything at United would be a hell of a result.

I used to cringe when other clubs did thing like this. People could have accused us of perhaps selling cheap (in fact Sir Alex even said it) but we did so to ensure the player was set up at their new club as a way of thanking them for their service. We may have been disliked but this was due to our domination and not for our class. Sadly this isn't the case it once was.

Judging by the article from United.no (official branch of the supporters club, and well sourced), it's the Glazers, not Woodward and Judge which is the problem. Every step of the process needs to go through them. I'm sure it's been mentioned before on here, but it explains why United are so slow in the market.
I don't have a clue if this is true or not, but the article is based on an interview with Tor Kristian Karlsen (former sporting director at Monaco and scout at Watford and Leverkusen) and united.no have access to people at the club as well. There's been three journalists including the editor working on this, which is unusual for United.no.
It is always a problem when the owner is not based in this country and does not employ somebody to make decisions for them.
Returning with an improved bid? What is that? Maybe United could apply this mysterious concept to some of our targets.
That £25m James rumour is from Football Insider, aka gutter press. Leeds won't be bidding anywhere close to that for him, we'd be lucky to break even on him.
I figure £15 sounds reasonable. Would not mind a loan either but that’s probably why of the table if we need the money to buy.

I think he'll do really well for Leeds - he hasn't been coached at united. Bielsa will be very good for him. He should move for his career.
