I hope we go for Brooks. He's no world beater, but the way teams set up against us, he'd be much better to have in the team rather than a pace merchant like Sarr or Adama.

Plus if we do actually go for Sancho or someone of a higher profile next season, he wouldn't be too fussed about being a squad option.

Agreed.

fecking hell, that's going up
That s typical. The selling club or player s agent brief the media about a low bargain price. United fans urge the club to sign the player calling it s "no brainier".
As soon as United make an enquiry, buying price goes up sharply.

Brooks isn't a bad player but if we do sign him it will be an admission of failure and a further showcase of incompetence and lack of ambition from Woodward and Judge. The fallout will be ugly.

Clubs negotiate with the threat that the buyer will go elsewhere. When they negotiate with us they know we won't.

Until we start calling their bluff then it will keep happening. Unfortunately the best time to do that was with Maguire.

We’re gonna end the season with David Brooks aren’t we? No offence to him but he will have a tough time here simply due to the fact he isn’t Jadon Sancho. He’ll be a constant reminder of our board’s ineptitude (I would like to add that I do like him and wouldn’t mind him as a squad player for a reasonable fee).

Telles I’m all for though so hope that one pans out - however a window of Donny, Telles and Brooks for what? £75m? And we’ll likely at least make £30m back if we kick our arses in to gear and sell some players. That’s an incredibly low net spend even in a Covid climate.

I'm not surprised Leicester are giving us a clear run at a player who had two operations on an injury that kept him out for 8 months, that Bournemouth value at £50m and would be a squad option.

The domestic window is open for 2 more weeks after the deadline isn’t it? Would not surprise me one bit if we go in for Brooks. I think he’s a cracking player too.

Or maybe it's because they found a player who better suits their style of play? Leicester already had Perez playing on the right, who is quite similar to Brooks in style of play. So they've gone for a different kind of player in Under.

The money Liverpool get for their kids is obscene. I don't know how they do it.
Our tendency to overpay players both fee and wages is catching up with us. Now every club wants extra money once we come knocking at the door.
Caught up to us years ago. Because of that it's taking double the work to show we aren't going to do that anymore.

Lower wages

Very different profile of players being compared as well.

19-21yr olds who are highly rated vs us trying to move on 27-31yr olds with years of failure behind them

If McTominay was being sold we’d get £30-40m judging on deals for the likes of Doucoure and the Rice price tag.

Brandon Williams could well get £15-20m.

Rojo and Jones etc aren’t going to being in a significant fee for obvious reasons.

Of course we won't sell James. Ole is probably an admirer due to his attitude.

Telles, Books, so uninspiring.

Telles I’m ok with as he’s very different to our other full back options. But he’s the cherry on top once you get your main target sorted.

I can’t believe there isn’t more rumours flying around about us. It really does feel like we may get Telles and nothing else.

The Tweet headlines Marlon, but there are a few more interesting bits in the article.
  • Fulham are talking to RB Leipzig to loan in Ademola Lookman.
  • Fulham are also eyeing Florentino Luis of Benfica for a loan.
  • "Parker has also considered re-signing Terence Kongolo from Huddersfield."

Official: Inter sign Arturo Vidal.

EDIT: Barcelona can get up to 1 million Euros in variable payments.

Brooks? What the hell is this rumour? I would go with Greenwood and James ahead of buying Brooks. And what next? We don't get Mbappe next summer so let's buy Sebastien Haller?

Funny that before he was injured people were really impressed with Brooks and actually wanted him. It would be keeping him fit. That some would rather have James on the wrong side for him and then carry on complaining that he is struggling.

Atletico de Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta denies having talked with Leverkusen about Arias.

We are talking to Roma, Everton and PSG, but not to Leverkusen. A loan deal with a purchase obligation after ten matches is possible.

Brooks is £15-20m player, that Bournemouth want to keep for their push back into the Premier League and are asking £50m for. Under is on loan with a view to a £23m permanent deal. I know what makes better business sense.

I'd take Brooks if he was signing for £15-20m, at that he is still a risky punt with regards to him missing development time through injury. Is he leaps and bounds a better squad option that Mata, Lingard and James...I don't think so. He is a sideward step. I'd like to think our scouts could scour the world and find as good an option for less than we would have to pay.

When we signed Dan James, I felt at the fee if he developed in the right way we may have found the Brooks/Madison like signing from source. Rather than having the like of Bournemouth £50m for Brooks or Leicester £80m for Maddison and on the flip side if he flopped we would pretty much get our money back.

Brooks played well before injury, not well enough to be considered a real option for us though I feel.
