You are being very harsh to a 19 year old player having his breakout season for United. Don’t know why you don’t rate him but I think he’s worth it.
And as I said, would cost a lot more buying a new LB. I rather invest in our academy. He will improve, only 19..

It is a big difference giving monster contracts to the likes of Rojo etc. But Williams had a good season and got an improved contract. Don’t know why you so angry about it!

That's not how it works anymore. Hudson-Odoi got something like £150k a week after doing what exactly? Unfortunately, money in the game has exploded and £65k a week is not that much when your top players get £300k +.

When Roy Keane was our highest-paid player at £55k a week a young player coming through would have got £10k. It's the same proportional pay it's just the money has gone bananas.

Added to which it isn't good to have a massive discrepancy in the highest and lowest earners at the club unless someone is an obvious superstar (e.g. Messi/Ronaldo) because it fosters resentment and division.

He's not a lb though. He's right footed. He's only played there more because Shaw has been injured more than AWB.

He played LB in the u23 and u18, mainly because of Laird so he does have some experience there. He looked alot more comfortable in the u23 at LB then he does currently, used his left foot alot more for passing and crossing.

He’s exactly what we need more of. Young warriors on the pitch that loves playing for the shirt. I don’t care if hes right footed, he gives it all every game. And will improve. I am done with Darmian transfers.
 
How does Fabrizio get all the transfer scoops and almost accurately to say the least? He must have a wide range of networks out there who feed him daily. Does he pay them for these information?

Chelsea paid that for CHU because Bayern wanted him and he would have moved otherwise. Whether he had done anything to merrit it or not the fact is Bayern wanted him. CHU was also rated extremely highly at the time. It's only looking back with hindsight it looks extra terrible. They still paid too much but in the world of football CHU was considered far more highly than Williams who isn't known at all outside England and isn't rated very highly by most outside of United fans. The lower Premier League team wage structure is still very different to the top Prem teams. £65k per week for them would be one of their most important players. For smaller teams outside of the Prem the gap is even larger still.

That can't be right. I don't remember who said it but some former players said, when he first got first team back in 90s, the pay was so low, he couldn't afford car, let alone luxury one. He had his parents drive him to training. There has been this discussion all this time by players from older generation about how nowadays youngster had this easy financial wise early on and some lose the motivation to better their career thinking they'd already made it.

You both already mentioned it. He played lb because Laird was playing on the right. It's pretty easy to look good in the u23s. The step up in quality is night and day. U23 level would realistically be League 2 level with a few outstanding talents. It's very clear how much our attack has suffered since Shaw got injured. I don't see how you could argue we've offered nothing in terms of crossing from the left wing since Williams has been playing there.

Saw a short doc/interview/video clip on youtube on what transfer season looks like for him. He goes around the hotels and restaurants in Milan and meets up, connects with player's agents, executives of Clubs and maintains that connection with these important people. He seems like a genuine human/fellow who seems to have good rapport with the agents and executives.
 
Agree with both of you. Some fans might be quick to judge but Brandon is one for the future and should definitely be rewarded and safeguarded proportionately.

Do people here even realize how much United is overpaying on wages compared to everyone else in the EPL? United spent 153mm last year. City, 135mm, Liverpool 87mm, Leicester 77mm.

United spend crazy amount of money on wages, because Ed is terrible @ his job. And it's something that he needs to be held more accountable for, bc the money he's wasting on wages, could be used to actually sign better quality players.

When you see Luke Shaw is on 150,000 a week, Mata on 160K a week AND Phil JOnes 75K a week to be our 6th choice CB-- you just have to shake your head.

FWIW--- Kyle Walker, 110K per week. Ben Chilwell 65K a week. Andy Robertson 50K per week, TAA 40K per week. SAdio Mane is on 100K per week. Fred and Victor are each on 120K. Lingard on 75K. Grealish is on 40K per week.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Ed is grossly overpaying players to come and stay here. A player will have a good month, then Ed extends him for 4 years with a stupid contract. United needs to rectify this immediately. With Covid, now is a great time to institute wage caps. The problem is a player goes to Ed, and sees Shaw is on 150K-- if he's on 150K, my client should be on 120K. So Ed pays up. Screw this.

Ed is paying Williams UP TO the same amount as Chilwell. /facepalm. Ed overpays for everyone. United's payroll should be about 60mm less per year with the talent they have. That's 120mm over 2 years which is the equivalent to an extra Jaden Sancho type signing every 2 years. Ed reminds me of the NY Yankees back in the day. They would grossly overpay for players in free agency, had a ridiculous payroll and overall weren't very good.

This team is a few pieces away, and if Ed hadn't wasted so much on salaries the past 6 year, United would have the money in the budget to fill the few missing pieces for them to challenge for the title as soon as this year.

If you want to vomit in your mouth-- take a look @ United's payroll compared to other clubs in the EPL. https://www.spotrac.com/epl/payroll/ Ed needs to nip this in the bud, and refuse to shell out big wages on non elite talent. Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons are on 5K a week @ Norwich. You think either would turn down 25K a week to play @ United, play in the Champions league and challenge for Trophies? Ed would offer them 50K instead of 25K. BC Ed doesn't have a clue. Like these players would turn down an increase from 250K per year to 1.25mm per year. (This was a hypothetical.)

As already stated by others he's 19 he has more to develop, he isn't the finished article whether that be on the right or left. I have seen him put in good crosses etc with his left foot, granted that was at a lower level, but he has show he can do it. Whether its a lack of confidence at first team level or instruction to come in on his right I don't know. Shaw also seems to be a little shy to cross from the left also and he's left footed. He has looked good on the left earlier in the season when he was getting plaudits from players, coaching staff, pundits and fans so to say he had no productivity would be harsh.

Maybe I'm giving too much credit or maybe you're judging him to harshly, possibly somewhere in the middle.

Whether you rate Williams highly or not, the bigger point is that the wage structure in general is deeply flawed at our club. A 19 year old backup who came through our youth academy who isn't rated particularly highly outside the club should not be getting £65k per week and it's a bit concerning that so many people seem to be ok with this. So many people are rejoicing that we just got Sanchez off the wage bill for no transfer fee (and even paid a fee to get rid of him). This is part of the same problem that led to that situation in the first place. Liverpool and City both pay far less to their players than we do despite having a far better team at this current time. I see a lot of positive signs for the club at the moment but this overpaying on contracts has shown me we haven't learned or moved forward as much as I hoped we had.

Just a suggestion before going on such a long rant please check the sources you are quoting just take some time research the figures and atleast check do they even make sense. Because the site you are using seem to have their data all over the place it pure BS nothing more.

Why are you focused on 65k? Even the fecking Mirror is only reporting it as 40k rising to 60k.

The data he is using is all over the place just check the link according to that site Liverpool have reduced their wage bill by almost 30m in last two years and if our wage bill was 153 m last year Woodward would be getting a raise not demotion.

I don't disagree with the majority of that, but we also don't know what the makeup of the 'up to 65k' is or if the 65k is even a fact. He could be on relatively low basic put with bonuses that would push it up with appearances, wins etc

£65k was the number I saw mentioned. £40k would be ok, a bit high but not crazy. Why was up to £65k mentioned though? If it's an increasing contract where he will eventually be on £65k it doesn't really matter if it's only £40k this 1st year since we'd still be commiting to paying it.

Indeed. Fact is the club have always kept wages at a respectable percentage of turnover. We do much better than every other PL club in this respect.

Why? Because saying 65k gets more clicks and starts more controversy/retweets. Most major media outlets aren't even reporting a figure.

Quite possible. I'm only basing it on the number being reported. If the base wage is significantly lower and this is dependent on specific bonuses like winning the CL or something similar then it's not a big issue. My concern comes moreso from the club's track record in this particular area in recent seasons. I'd he very happy if the club has actually learned from these mistakes and changes the contracts they're willing to offer as a result.
 
Its weird how easily United fans fall for how United news is reported in the media. No one here would have a problem if Brandon's wages were reported as 25k basic wages with 30k+ as performance bonuses. But as its reported as upto 65k, it seems too big for some fans. The same thing happened with Rashford's new contract and the same will happen with Sancho's wages and with Pobga's new contract.

Have you seen Saliba's attempt at a beard ? Our CB pairing will have the worst facial hair in the league and there's nothing you can do about it !
