Isn't that on top of the loan fee from last year? I mean we clearly don't want him and he's 31 in November and we are using covid as a reason to not back Ole properly, Roma have nowhere near our resources in Normal times so the board can't have it both ways.
I am not sure, but they're just breaking 15m pounds even if it was on top of it. Maybe a bit more if the add ons are realised. He's just definitely worth more than that, but you're right, the board are being stubborn on it.

Apparently, Jack Grealish's new contract will see him earn at least 125k Pounds/week.

Very unfortunate for Grealish to have this COVID transfer window. I'm sure under normal circumstances he would have moved. I even think he would have come to United had DvB not been made available. He's easily good enough for any top 6 team.

So we went from a possible Sancho, Grealish, Upamecano and Reguillon, to Van de Beek and maybe Reguillon. Talking about a letdown.
We didn't have much activity for both Grealish and Upamecano. We may have been monitoring both of them, but I'd expect us to do that for a long while. Our actual transfer activity has involved the following players:
  • Jadon Sancho
  • Donny van de Beek
  • Sergio Reguilon
  • Gabriel Magalhaes
  • Benoit Badiashile
  • Several players for the underage sides

He’s still playing for one of the biggest clubs in the country. They could be going places now they’ve managed to keep him and are clearly intent on spending money.

The loan fee is irrelevant. It’s likely we’ve got at least one English club who are willing to give us 20m for Smalling so unless Roma stump more than 10m they can jog on.

That's not the case though, we are just going to keep him, it's not like the articles are saying there are other buyers to put pressure on Roma.

The thing for me is we are skinflinting on all our deals for Ole then trying to demand a fair price when selling, if we were doing right by Ole and the team I'd have no issue holding out for a bit more for Smalling, even though ultimately we've had 10 years service for the fee we paid and Ole doesn't want him, so making him stay makes little sense, and I feel sorry for Smalling because he has the ambition to want to play and move on, unlike Jones and Rojo who are just bench bum money vacuums.

What is it with Spurs chasing all our targets? They also tried to sign VDB near the end...

I
If we didn't have a good relationship with Ajax, there's a strong chance we don't even get VdB.

There’s also zero chance they’d sell him to us for anything below asking price, there’s a zero chance they would reject a bid from any other club at the same price. Market is market, the money is the same no matter the hand giving it to you.

Having targets and actually attaining them is a different matter. I think Grealish would have been at the very top of United's wish list. Very similar profile to VdB and same positions. However, VdB becoming available and at a much lower cost made it obvious for United to got for that option. Jadon Sancho was obviously a target. I'm not sure about the others. It's common occurrence with agents and clubs linking their players with big clubs to give them a higher profile. Some of the names we can just ignore.

Does anybody think we have deliberately not accepted a fee for Smalling so Ole had no choice to keep him, therefore no need to spend on a CB. They are screwing Ole over.

Reguilon has a straight path into the first eleven, unlike at United, where he has to dislodge Shaw.

You can dislodge Shaw with a little wooden fishing rod, some string and a sugar ring doughnut... lol I kid

Here's a summary of events on Sergio Reguilon:
  • Chelsea, Sevilla, and United were all in touch with Reguilon's camp
  • Chelsea got Chilwell; Sevilla got Acuna
  • United were the only ones remaining to deal with Real Madrid for Reguilon
  • United are in negotiations with Real Madrid and Reguilon
  • Meanwhile, Spurs were monitoring the situation
Now:
  • Spurs are negotiating with Real Madrid
These are the facts. Summary: both Spurs and United are in negotiations with both Madrid and Reguilon's camp.

Ornstein seems very positive about talks between Spurs and Madrid; Spurs' confidence could be based on the fact that they are okay with the buyback clause. United, on the other hand, are reluctant on the buyback clause, but Romano's more positive about the talks between United and Reguilon's camp (apparently Reguilon wants to join us).

At this stage, both United and Spurs are in the same situation. The key could be in the buyback clause and whether either club will allow Reguilon to return to Real Madrid should they come back for him. For Reguilon, getting regular football will be critical for him in order to become Spain's starting left back for Euro 2021.

Maybe they made an actual bid. Or maybe they agreed to the buy back clause.
Or simply he's making a choice between United and Spurs and looked at where his best chances are being the number 1 in his spot.

If true then I guess it's down to Spurs being willing to accept anything Real say in regard to the buy back clause.

Bouhafsi reported on our links with both Gabriel and Badiashile in the past, so there would have been something on our end for them. For Reguilon, we now know that United are working on getting him.
