Was hoping that would fall through for arsenal. They get a very good player that could get them much closer to 4th but without a huge outlay.

He only got one year left right ? I'm sure he loves the club but it would be better for him to cash a part of his last year to terminate his contract and find a midtable club that will take him on. His return this season was abysmal and another year with 15/20mn cameo won't help him that much. It might also be a good change for him if he's still struggling with his mental health. Playing for United isn't for everyone, he would benefit from playing at a slightly lower level.
He's entering his final year, but he also has a club option that extends that by one year. I guess it'll depend on whether we find a buyer for him. If not, then we won't come in his way to let him go without necessarily getting a fee.

Lingard could comfortably be a good signing for a top 10 side. On form he has his pluses.
Periera I'm less sure about but he still has youth on his side and he seems determined enough to put a graft in, so he could have his suitors.

Could see either one of them be a permanent fixture for the likes of Newcastle,Burnley and Villa to name three potential clubs.

Real clearing the way for a midfield signing or are they still adamant they’re not spending this summer because of covid ?
They brought Odegaard back, so they won't necessarily need James in their squad. Ceballos is probably heading out on another loan as Valverde, Modric, and Kroos might continue to play ahead of him.

We should keep Fred. A long season and we have 5 midfields but most of them are either old (Matic), not that good (McT) or injury-prone (Pogba).

Why is Fred going even a topic? He's had a very good season and Ole seems to fancy him as first choice at DM going forward.

McTominay should be the one to go on loan as he needs the experience. Fred ended the season well so i he should stay.

Seen this point a lot on here in the last few days. What is it based on? Has their been any reports about it? Because barring a couple of Europa League games at the end I think Matic has looked comfortably our favoured no. 6.

He seems to prefer Fred in games where he expects a more mobile opposition who can press and considering that he wants his own midfield to be a lot more agile, I think Fred is a good bet to start the season there.

Matic starts games where United are expected to have a lot of the ball and need to commit numbers to break a defense down.

That's a stretch. He definitely improved right at the end of the season but he was nothing special last year. Tidy midfielder but not particularly creative or good defensively, he spends half the game turning back and forth on the ball. If Arsenal were to seriously invest in their midfield and pair him with two better players (like Partey and Aouar) he could be a good ball shuttler. Positive for them to get him back for free, but doesn't get them any closer to top 4 unless he improves massively on last season

According to Mike Verweij, we'll be paying van de Beek around 120k Euros per week (excluding bonuses).

Fred is a player who seems to need a couple of games (regular playtime) to really kick on. A game here and there is not going to help his form.

I was going to write exactly that. I don't get it. Did we put him on loan? Why would all if sudden Galatasaray offered loan deal?
Hope it is not true. I rate Fred

It's only started because a Turkish newspaper linked with him a loan spell to Galatasaray. The fact that United fans have mixed views on Fred means that this won't die for a while.

Roma might have a bigger revamp of their defence than previously thought.

  • Roma are targeting Atletico Madrid's Nehuen Perez, who's a very promising defender.
  • Roma's Federico Fazio is targeted by both Cagliari and Fiorentina.
I've always seen Smalling as a Fazio replacement in Roma's back line, so if he leaves, I wouldn't be surprised if Roma go all out for Smalling.

I'm still indifferent to Fred, tbh. He's an effective player in closing down certain opposition attacks and he has great stamina but with the ball ,especially if we're looking to improve our possession play, I just dont see a great deal of productivity in that area from him.

He can still be too lax with the ball and out-muscled and, fundamentally, I dont think we can rely upon a defensive midfielder to be so indifferent with his passing, especially with Pogba and Bruno in the side.
And this is precisely why Matic was such a constant fixture post-lockdown. He's just better with the ball. He's less rash, more composed and far more levelled headed in and out of possession.
What goes against Matic is nothing more than age catching up with him but his key skillset still remains.

Now Fred is certainly a few steps below the likes of Periera,Lingard and Mata ,interms of who should be shifted out from our midfield base, but if a good offer comes in I think we should consider it,more so if Thiago really is on the market for us.

I'd let Fred go, there are limitations to his game, he's a poor passer of the ball.

And this is another issue I have with Fred. It just seems to take him a while to get going.
It's not necessarily a sign of confidence either that his form dips when he's in and out of the side but more down to a lack of judgement in getting to grips with the pace of the game.
