Reliance on individual brilliance can only take you too far if you don`t have good depth as a support system or the right tactics. Our key players can`t play week in week out without the inevitable dip in form or fatigue/injuries and as you said our forward line is young which also means inconsistent wishful thinking if you think they will turn into Mane/Salah/Firmino overnight not counting in Ole is nowhere close to the likes of Klopp/Pep. We had this very same tone in 2018 and we went from 2nd to 6th everything currently points to us heading the same way.
What makes you think it won`t be the case? Our form since Southampton at home has been dodgy at best and from then it was clear depth was an issue and there were holes in the starting 11 that needed fixing and we`ve done zilch about it. City, Arsenal, LFC, Spurs and Chelsea have strengthened and will continue to do so and in the case of Arsenal/Spurs now that they`ve had time to adapt to their new managers no chance they are anywhere near as bad this coming season as they were last season, City/LFC will still have at least 80+ points next season and Chelsea after this window will definitely be within touching distance of the top 2/3.All because we haven't signed anyone yet.
Sigh.
Meltdown in here ever since Chelsea splashed the cash is laughable.
Leeds and Sheffield are dropping sums on players that in their financial reality is the equivalent of what Dortmund want from us for Sancho.
So Messi going to City, Chelsea signing a brand new team, Thiago to the bin dippers and Spurs/Arsenal set to have decent windows?? Supporting Man Utd next season is going to be a monumentally difficult task for any normal supporter that isn`t comfortable seeing the club fall behind. Anything below 3 signings and we are in for a VERY rough few years ahead sad times
I`d rather take a break from football in general till The Glazers leave than accept the current state we are in while others around us are closing in on us and leaving us behind it ain`t good for my mental health. This summer and season will be the sticking point for me.It's been this way for seven years. This is the new normal and everyone just needs to adjust their expectations accordingly.
United's perpetual state of mediocrity is much less painful when it's anticipated. At the moment, it seems like some fans are discovering our dysfunctional state anew every season, which turns this place into some sort of meltdown Olympics for the entire summer.
"Manchester United are really quite crap and are not in the business of competing for trophies; any season where we manage to finish 4th is a season where we have done very, very well." Say it to yourself five times a day until it is ingrained in your psyche - it will really take the sting out of being a United fan.
Barca. Is this that Madrid kid ?

So 2 good juniors joined. I think that's great. Is this that Madrid kid ?
Seeing your rivals signing players left right and seeing the moronic board jerking off somewhere is truly disheartening. We finally got a good core since SAF retirement and what does Ed do ? Signing some random english bloke for 40m. I think I cannot take it anymore
Also would be great if they still don't win the CL.Imagine if you're Sterling and KDB and you've been consistently the best and most influential players City have had in the past few seasons and Messi walks in and earns twice as much as you.
Love to see some fallout at City.

They'll care if he doesn't put a shift in,what with there pressing style.Would they really care?
His stature in the sport obviously warrants the wage. It's not like they're on a pittance. I'm sure they're all praying for him to join.
You do know its the messiah Ole that chooses transfers as well? Thiago Alcantara’s potential move to Liverpool is set to pick up pace in the coming days, report SportBild in their magazine this week.
If only our bench was stronger I would have been content with no first xi signing this summer because of covid. But we simply need rotation options because our bench is almost relegation quality. Without a stronger bench I don't think top 4 finish will be possible because of how injury prone some of our players are.
That was nothing more than a cheap opportunistic punt, with good reason too.You do know its the messiah Ole that chooses transfers as well? Remember Josh King

If Messi joins City and Thiago joins Liverpool then Utd will have to do something big or the backlash against Woodward and the Glazers is going to be biblical.
Personally I'd take no transfers at all and a season of mediocrity if it meant they'd sell up and leave though. It would be worth the anguish.
our U23s and academy don’t look like have anyone ready to step up either. Laird maybe. Would be happy to be proven wrong though
We dont necessarily need to do 'something big' and also the reaction will only be reserved to social media. If Messi joins City and Thiago joins Liverpool then Utd will have to do something big or the backlash against Woodward and the Glazers is going to be biblical.

Garner and Levitt too.
Not that I would bet on either of them breaking through just yet but there's always a chance, look at Brandon Williams.
True, should have said I was assuming Garner will go out on loan
We would have been stuck with him for 3-5 years, not a cheap punt at all. It was a terrible thought. That was nothing more than a cheap opportunistic punt, with good reason too.
The moment Bournemouth wanted 20 million we rightfully walked away.
