Been asking to go on loan for since before Jan 2019 and blocked everytime
maybe the club tried but there were no decent takers, given that he can’t even make Lille 1st Team squad.

he was virtually invisible when he got first team minutes at United and I couldn’t see what the fuss was about.

It’s crystal clear he had his ego falsely inflated by his agent. And he is an idiot for trusting the agent over his club coaches, given the club has been his home since he was a child.

If Smalling really wants that move to Italy, wonder if the possibility of offering him plus cash for Koulibaly will be explored? Probably not, but would make sense I think. But what do I know, I'm eating crisp sandwiches in bed and drinking bottles of beer while watching The Godfather
Do you think that is an offer they can't refuse?

They are offering 3+12m
We want 3+15m

Difference of 3m euros.

Far apart in valuations.. Italian clubs are hilarious.
Doesn't matter.. We can get 15m for Smalling from anywhere.. there is no need to accept a low bid by 3rd aug.. if they cant afford it.. tough.

As far as i read the tweet, it said 3+ option to buy for 12m though. Not quite the same, practically just a loan. If it was obligation to buy for 12, i doubt we'd let that stop the deal.

Blocked is a very specific word

We should stick to our guns as I'm sure there are plenty of PL clubs interesting in Smalling.

 touché mate, touché!! In fairness, it made a lot more sense to me last night when I was filled to the brim with beer.
Well, considering how much Napoli spunked on Osimhen, they must be due some cash inflow aswell... Might not be as far off after all :smirk:

Not exactly encouraging is it. Fair play for him leaving for first team football but Jesus that's a pretty shitty route.
He speaks Portuguese doesn't he? Not that has anything to do with the 'shitty route'

I mean so what? I thought he was setting his sights higher than Lille to Boavista no disrespect to those 2 clubs but yeah. They finished bottom half of the Portuguese league this season.

Great to get a loan move for Rashford (@Rood ;) )

Joking aside, Laird going on loan rather than being promoted to the senior team? Hope he gets some Europa / pre-season to stake a claim here actually. Not least if Dalot is a goner.

We would get £15m for him from West Ham or Burnley or any of this defensive teams. I say screw Roma
Screw Roma, they dont want to pay up for their best CB this season. Acting up like a destitute Serie C team, what an utter prick of a club. Guarantee they would play hardball if we approach to buy Zaniolo. I say sell him to other team just to spite them.

Just sell Smalling to a PL team at an inflated price. Roma are dicking around.

I think this is what a lot of clubs would do, and arguably what we should be doing from a business point of view.

I think what is happening though is that Smalling has made it clear where he wants to be and United are doing their best to accommodate someone who was a good servant to the club.

It’s not great business because I am sure we could get 25 million from several PL teams, but if this is the case, I think it’s classy and reflects well on the club. It’s frustrating, but it’s nice if we want to do our best to give him the move he wants.

We really don't know how the negotiations went. Any snippets of information will have been from his agent. The club won't say he's not needed to safeguard his career. Even if United gave him a contract it would have been very likely he would have been sold for a few million quickly. United generally don't get much wrong when letting players coming up from youth levels leave. Only exceptions being if the players insist on leaving in cases such as Pogba and Pique to name a couple.

I’m sure this is another player many had nailed on to be class here in the PL. never looked top level.
He's going to the right place then. AC Milan is the graveyard of players who were once destined to be top class but failed.

True, and the Napoli owner did say yesterday that Koulibaly might leave. Maybe beer turns me into a genius transfer ITK

If this is true he must have been truly p*ssed off at the club.
Nah I think he thought a load of top clubs would be in for him.

And I don’t see how he can be angry with the club, he was given chances and did nothing, similar to Chong.

The club offered a new contract which means they were committed to giving him further chances, he obviously thought he should be getting into match day squads after doing nothing. I’m glad the club doesn’t let young lads dictate without having much to barter with.

I wish him well though.

Ha!

It's seems rarer nowadays that players get a good loan move and it helps them get back in first team - not just at United either.

I expect Dalot to leave and Laird get first team gametime

Bissaka needs rest sometimes, so Laird can easily start 10-15 games next season for us.

He did so well with Bournemouth, especially when they first got promoted but I would argue they made some bizarre decisions in the transfer market for really bang average players. Fingers crossed he lands on his feet
Yeah, I think his transfers have been woeful. Especially when you think he ends up going back to most of the players he came up with, it shows he shouldn't really be in charge of transfers. The Jordan Ibe transfer said it all. Even mousset who subsequently did well at Sheffield Utd.

I remember some posters on here complaining that he was a top RB available on the cheap when he moved to Spurs, and that we should be looking at him.

I remember Ibe looked ok when he was breaking through but they really got gubbed on that one. Solanke wildly inconsistent. Lerma looked good at times but then looked so put of depth. Weird part is Mings and Mousset both looked better away from Bournemouth!

This is interesting as he supposed to be the best player in his age group for England. Only going off reports but he’s a really skilful wide forward and dribbler like Sancho.

Yeah that's what confused the hell out of me, he seems to not able to buy for his system. I don't doubt he's a decent judge of talent, but that's why managers in the ilk of Allardyce will ultimately continue to get employed. They do know how to buy people to be effective.
