I keep hearing us linked to this Longstaff chap. (Must avoid the urge to make fellatio jokes with a name like that!)

What do you all make of him in terms of being useful for United?

To me this transfer makes no sense as we are already packed with youth prospects having a Longstaff of our own in McTominey with arguably better skills and more experience. No idea why this is being pushed so much by the media. We should focus on other targets. As a fellow forum member said a bit earlier, we could have landed Tilemanas with Longstaff money month ago.

So it's this week or bust in terms of main targets. Ie maguire and longstaff. Can't see them being sold in same week season starts. I can see why we don't want to go near 50 for longstaff. But we should get maguire done and prioritise a new midfielder.

I may be wrong but I've a feeling solskjaer and his team might anticipate big seasons from mctominay and Fred, who I don't want to write off. Maybe a midfielder won't happen though I think fernandes would be a great signing

Selling unwanted/uncertain players has been a big problem this summer (and before). Too many players on sizable wages in this team who simply don't have the equivalent relevance to match.

Sanchez, Lukaku, Rojo, Darmian, Jones (new contract), Young and Mata (new contract) are all set to be part of the squad for next season, and some of those just shouldn't. Another season of watching Sanchez's 80 year legs try and fail sounds great.

On the other hand, with regards to incomings, we surely should be getting players like Longstaff over the line easier than this. You'd think this was some uber coveted CM everyone was after (although I do like the look of him). I imagine we'll get at least one sorted before the window ends but it does feel like we're scampering.

Best case scenario- get rid of Rojo, Darmian, Lukaku whilst bringing in Maguire , Fernandes or SMS, Costa , Dybala or Ben Yedder.

Realistically- sell Lukaku , rojo and darmian stay, Pogba goes after our deadline and De Gea signs a contract extension.

This transfer window the asset really has been 'sweat' and it will continue until Glazers go.

Not a chance we are getting the signings in the positions we need before the end of the window- it has took us since end of May to get James and Wan Bissaka- who lets face it were hardly big complicated deals to do.

Next season we will finish 8th (if my prediction of whom goes and stays is correct).

What's the deal with Bruno "crying" after being subbed off against Valencia?
People suggest it's his last game for Sporting... Looks more like he's wiping off sweat instead of tears

This is why I admire how City work. They are ruthless and decisive, regardless of transfers out or in.

Every club makes mistakes with transfers, unfortunately in the last few years it’s been more often than not for us.

Deadweights shouldn’t be have their contracts extended. We shouldn’t haggling for higher prices for players we don’t want to play or keep.

It’s ridiculous. Unfortunately we do not know what goes on behind the scenes at the club with regards to decision-making, and since we’re in the transfer chat, especially with regards to transfers/contract extensions.

No doubt Woodward is great at making money. We’ve been screaming for a while now that someone should be put in charge of the football side of things whilst Woodward just concentrates on the commercial aspects.

Matt Judge is a dumbcnut if it’s to be believed that he’s in charge of negotiating contracts/extensions and he should have been sent packing a long time ago.

I had hoped that Mourinho or Van Gaal would have the nuts to expose what has been going wrong behind the scenes at United.

Yes, it reflects how we are as a club now which has a holiday camp feel to it. We used to have a ruthless streak.

And risk court cases and non payments? You better believe United have that shit locked down and signed that they can't speak out against the club.

The signing of Santini from Anderlecht, which was announced by Jiangsu on their social media outlets on Monday morning, alongside the recruitment of Brazilian defender Miranda from Inter Milan late last week means the club now have five foreign players on their books.
CSL rules allows clubs to have four overseas-born players included in their official squads at any one time and, with Italian defender Gabriel Paletta expected to depart soon, Jiangsu's quota has been filled with the signing of Santini.

The Sunday newspapers went crazy yesterday and then started contradicting each other.
Anything to sell papers.

Lingard has been pretty good at pre season tbf on him.
This discussion is for another thread but I totally disagree. He's displayed is true quality this pre-season - average PL footballer. He should be a main man at a team like Bournemouth or on par with many at a club like Everton, not being a focal point in a team that has aspirations to win the league.

Disagree completely. Gomes has always looked better and so has Pereira

There are two parts to be fair, with and without the ball. He was looking good at pressing. With the ball, he was one of our worst performers in the attacking third though.

There are literally countless threads in which you can bash Jessie Lingard. Let's not make this one of them.

So overall he wasn't very good then. Both Pereira and Gomes looked good pressing but were also good on the ball.

Personally I thought Lingard had a poor preseason

I think it is time to accept that we are not signing anyone else, lads.

I accepted this a few weeks back mate. It was blatantly obvious what we needed to do this transfer window. This has been pure negligence on the part of Ed and the board. Pathetic.

In what universe is that true? We are nowhere near that level currently

Unless we get three signing this week, we are in big trouble going into the season, ,if Ole decides to play the pressing game, then in the middle it is most likely Mc T, Perreria alongside Pogba, with Fred and Matic used for Europa league and cup games, now if Mc T get's injured, thats Ole whole plan out of the window, as we lose the legs and steel in the middle of the park.

What i would of done if i was Ole was go for Ndidi and Dacoure, let Matic and Fred go, this summer, considering Matic and Bailly have a year left on their contract.
Play Pogba as a 10, behind Rashford or Martial, and either one can take the left birth, thats left vacant with James as understudy.

I would use Pereira as Pogba's understudy and currently use Linguard or Gomes on the right wing, as with Bissaka, we got an outlet on the right, till January or next summer. Then get a centre back in.

Ole will probably dismiss the Europa league, to help benefit our league performance, [playing on Sunday's] hoping we can get top 4, but like Arsenal and Chelsea last season, it's a nice option to have,
