I've seen it all before. Right near the end of the window we'll start the PR machine to make sure fans aren't expecting anything else. Last season it was Varane for £100m if he ever comes available, for example, plus the stuff about Jose's options being "5th choice at best" at United. That included Maguire. It's bullshit mate. The narrative has changed with our briefs and what Ole is saying. The writing is on the wall.
Although a lot of our fans do go overboard with their moaning, our whole approach does sound idiocy at times.
The saying we have 100m for the likes of Varane was hilariously stupid.
As automatically a price is added to, even after the United and England player tax.
The we "Only" have 100m to spend in total was a slightly wiser attempt, but no other club was buying that.

Listening to Ole's presser today and seeing footage of how he interacts with the fans on tour I gotta say he is an absolute breath of fresh air. I know it's been said before but his positivity really is infectious. The players have a different air about them too. If we can get Maguire and a CM I think we could have a cracking season - and I think we will get them. Just my 2 cents.

I think we'll get Maguire and Longstaff, but even if we don't, I still think we're good for 4th place. Chelsea=transfer ban, haven't replaced Hazard, Aresenal=No money, very little activity with many areas to fix. Wan Bissaka alone has increased our chances significantly, I can't believe how bad the right-back position has been, Young is so bad, a lot of teams would target him and he made our CB's nervous. All this with a very good pre-season, fitness levels up to scratch and everyone on board with Ole's methods. People are so quick to freak out.
If we play as we have been in pre-season for 90 minutes in every game this season, we could even pip Spurs to 3rd.

I feel like we NEED Maguire. Not bothered about any others if the targets we want are asking silly prices. Rather we wait and get the right people.

Some business to do yet. Chelsea could potentially kick on, they have some very good young players who could perhaps revel under Lampard.

There is a FAR bigger story here, though, mate. And many fans on here need to take heed, if this is true.....
Woodward or whoever is responsible for this, NEVER once comes out and denies the links. They would rather the fans think we've tried and failed, rather than tell them we were never interested. NEVER do they do this. City do it. Liverpool did it with Pepe. Issued a statement saying 'this is not true'.

Wouldn't it be possible to create a thread for minor league transfers? Then people who are interested can view it there and discuss those transfers and we won't have 12 new tweets where 6 of them are teams almost no one cares about and we wont have to have to read complaints about those tweets? @Fridge chutney

What I meant with minor leagues is a league which isn't the top division in its country... I didn't whine, I was trying to come up with something constructive.

This has been 1 x player all summer long. We're not talking about one paper saying we've bid for Milenkovic from Fiorentina, here. We're taling about a summer-long saga where every single media outlet claims we're in for Fernandes. That's the situation where you'd expect your board to come out and shoot them down if it wasn't true. Not allow them to use the club's name and string fans along all summer, unless there's an actual reason for wanting it to happen.
Don't agree, I think if we made official announcement 2 or 3 times, "Man United not interested in signing _________ player", or something like that, would make players agents to use our name to get their clients bigger contracts, and "journos" to think twice before they connect our name with 1398 players every transfer window.

There's a load of posters who are far more interested in the Championship than they are the Dutch league (for example). I'd personally prefer a English transfer tweets thread and a non-english one but I know that would annoy others so I just scroll past the stuff that I'm not interested in.
We are no longer a top club , we lack the hunger to go for all competitions. Just look at Juve or Barcelona, they have a goal on sight and they invest year after year even when they are winning the league cup. We are hoping for a 4th place and hoping to build from there...

It's not difficult to refute a story in the first instance, and the key "signings": the one's that feature ad-nauseam in red-top publications, don't number into the 100s; so for a club that prize their social media standing so highly I think a fair amount of misdirection could be at play here if there is an understandable expectation of substantial "churn" ( one of Ed's oft used terms ).
