Lille president Gerard Lopez confirms that Gabriel can leave the club if he so chooses.

L'Equipe mention that Everton are leading the race, but I wouldn't necessarily trust them on that.
Reputed United CB target Gabriel Magalhães (~ £30m), age 22, 190cm tall, currently at Lille, no serious injury issues, will decide between several offers this week.

His touches in a match against Chelsea

Manchester United made an initial offer to Sochaux for Willy Kambwala (born: 2004) of less than €1 million. The central defender, an U-16 international, has been followed by the United for several weeks; as reported by L'Equipe. Sochaux don't plan to let him go and offered him a professional contract. The player and his advisors are mulling it over.
I already provided the translations in my post. I'm not sure if this offers anything new.

Sure, and I hope it works out for him at Lille or wherever he ends up. But if it doesn't, then he will have made such a massive mistake leaving the club. He had credit in the bank at Manchester United because he was an academy product. And even after him showing no reason to warrant a place in the first team, he was offered a good contract. Now, if he fails to make an impression at Lille he would have to think about going on loan in Ligue 2 or something similar. That's not wise if you ask me.

Back your own talent...

Liverpool went from a a circa 70 point season to 97 points within a year. It's a monumental task but it is possible.

Possible, yes, but certainly not what one would expect to happen.

If (and it is a big 'if') we can somehow manage an 85+ points season next year, we'll have done remarkably well. The reality is that, even in that scenario, we won't finish higher than third.

It's possible but not when we're restricted in the market. Three signings is the absolute best we can hope for.

God I hate comparing us to that scum but what two signings could we make realistically that can have an Alisson & Van Dijk like difference to our team. Doesn't have to be both this summer but just interested to hear people's views and opinions on this one

Are you serious? Of all the clubs in the world you're saying Manchester United, under Ole, isn't backing our own talents?

We have the highest number of minutes played by academy products in the whole league. Younger and not as talented players have played many games this season but somehow this is not on Gomes? How?

One would be Sancho, the other would probably have to be a CB with the potential to reach the level of VVD. Maybe Upamecano if he progresses.

I expect competition in the league will be stronger next season, as all of the challengers will strengthen. It's also possible that Liverpool finally get some injuries to key players and don't get such an incredible number of late, scruffy victories.

Based on that alone, I'm not seeing another 90+ point season.

It's not just Allison and Van Dijk. The players that were there improved massively. The likes of Robertson, TAA, Wijnaldum, Sane etc found new gears. People need to forget this idea that it's simply significant that will get us to be where we want to be. The likes of Martial, Rashford, Pogba Maguire etc have to step up.

VDB far more likely now Villa have stayed up. Grealish would probably be around the £70m mark but VDB would set us back around £40m.

Sticking to my £50m plus add ons which would take it to around £60m but you might be right

Well Ajax have already said they're going to grant him his wish for a transfer this window so I don't think they'll play hardball and stand in his way. I would be surprised if we paid £60m for him.

VDB fits the team better no doubt about it and would be cheaper but there is something about Grealish that I think could be special with better players around him and see him as someone who can turn games in our favour.

Im saying Gomes should back his own talent. As in he has made the right choice for himself.

I dont know why people get so precious with these situations.

Smalling - £12m
Rojo - £6m
Dalot - £12m
Lingard - £20m
Pereira - £10m
Mata - £8m
Sanchez - £10m
Jones - £5m
Total = £83m

I think this is a realistic expectation with all the clearing out. We probably won't get more than 80m in total.

Our total next expenditure will probably be £180m. Good enough for 3 solid players in my view.

Probably a bit too much on some, and a bit too little on others. £80m should be realistic.

Would not mind if we sold Mensah and Fred too if we brought in a midfielder and Grealish. Maybe they could bring in £30 mill more? If we are lucky someone pays up for Zaha too.

Rice, Grealish and Sancho would be an amazing window. Central defender and a left back in ‘21 and our squad would be ready.

As I said, good luck to him. I'm coming more from risk management perspective and he is definitely not taking the most risk-averse option but as you said, he is backing his own talent. Wouldn't be the first to succeed elsewhere nor the first to fail.

If his aim is to be a pro footballer then he actually is. Because these years now he needs to play regularly and his past 18 months at United have been mismanaged in the fact he neither played or was sent on loan (even when he insisted in the loans since Jan 2019)
So it would be a mistake in terms of the risk to continue at United in that sense.
Similar thing happened with Pereira who stagnated quite a lot as a result. I'm not saying United are not good at developing talent, we are one of the best, but even so some players will stagnate because other are fast-tracked ahead etc

Staying at United for him at present time doesn't make sense, especially when he only got around 45 min last pre season.

If you're talking about risk management the biggest risk at his age is lack of competitive game time.

Anyway let's not derail this thread, happy to discuss further in another thread if you really want to

Grealish at 40 million is a great buy. At 80 million villa can make him rot, like palace did with Zaha.
