While it's great to have another highly rated youngster in the BL, I really hope bigger clubs try to sign more German youngsters rather than foreign ones.
Makes me really worried about the state of German youth football that currently the best young players at the biggest clubs are foreign and they are trying to get more from abroad. Doesn't seem to be that they either have talented youngsters in their own ranks or there are talented Germans to try and pursue.
Bayern have been unlucky though in that they did try recently to get young Germans but pretty much all had failed to make the grade. Sinan Kurt, Mitchel Weiser and probably Jan Fiete Arp will be the same.
You look at the best u21 players in the BL and majority would actually be French. Upamecano, Konate, Diaby, Mukiele, Nkunku, Zagadou and then from other nationalities you have obviously Sancho, Tapsoba, Reyna, Hakimi, Haaland.
Far fetched from 2010 when you had the amazing batch of Germany's 2009 U21 squad (Ozil, Khedira, Neuer, Hummels, Boateng, Howedes, Marin, Castro, Schmelzer) along with Gotze, Kroos, Draxler, Muller and Badstuber. Can't name many talented Germany youngsters at that age currently other than Havertz (Werner, Brandt and regressed Tah are 24 themselves).

Honestly people pointed the finger at the Premier League snapping up young foreigners years ago as the reason English football suffered. Would not surprise me if German football takes a hefty decline for a spell
It was a superb deal for a player with similar potential to Upamecano. I think Kouassi could prove to be a better signing than Sane in the longterm with all things considered.
I don’t know man. I have never heard of the player until i saw the tweet. Seemed like no one was really chasing him and Bayern had a free run signing him. I’m not saying he’s not a young talent though, i’m sure he probably is
PSG were pretty desperate to keep him and pissed that he decided to leave. Only 18 but he got a lot of game time at PSG and can also play as a DM.
It probably helped that other PSG youth players spoke highly about the Bundesliga and that there are 5 other French players at Bayern. Also the Lizarazu/Sagnol/Ribery history.
There are several good young German players across the Bundesliga that aren't getting much attention for whatever reason. Florian Neuhaus has been great for Monchengladbach. Wirtz has come up as a very promising attacking player at Leverkusen. Maximilian Beier has shown some promise in his cameos for Hoffenheim. Hertha Berlin have a promising defender in Torunarigha. Schalke have Suat Serdar who was carrying Schalke's midfield. Cologne have Katterbach, a promising left back. They may not be as publicised as the foreign young players are, but they've done as well if not better than several of them.
Florian Neuhaus: I was excited for him but this season he doesn't seem to have developed more, I don't think he'll reach world class level or the level to be a star for Germany. Falls in the same category as Eggestein at Bremen.
Wirtz: Definitely like the look of him in the few matches he has played, but again not enough matches to fully judge his ability
Baier: Similar to Wirtz, not enough appearances to judge how talented he really is.
Tournarigha: Haven't seen him play a lot but did hear he's been consistent in the XI for 2020, keeping out Stark, who I like. He can be named if I'm also naming Tapsoba. Another one from Berlin is Meier, but he's been poor since his return from injury and isn't starting anymore for Berlin.
Suat Serdar: Nope, not talented for me. Never liked him at Mainz and never thought he'd do well for Schalke as well. Though Schalke is not the best place for a youngster to be playing right now, I don't think he's better than average.
Katterbach: I'll be honest, don't know of him.
In any case, none of these players are equal to talent of the German players I mentioned in my post, and also aren't as talented as the others.
We do have a good pool of talent at the age bracket above those others, such as 23 and above, where you have guys like Sane, Brandt, Gnabry, Sule, Goretzka, Kimmich (the batch that won the Confed Cup and U21 Euro championship in 2017). That's as talented a pool of players of that age you will get in many other countries, but sadly I think that's the last talented pool Germany will see in a while.
He's only played 51 minutes for them, at €21m they better hope he turns good for them in the PL should they get promotion.
That’s true but Sancho only has 2 years left so next summer he’d be down to the Sane level of £55-60m. On that basis £75-80m is maybe a fair price for that extra contract year.
Sancho is 5 years younger and British. That makes him quite a bit more expensive
That does not make him more expensive. If no one buys him this season, they will get him cheap next season, or free the season after. If his form drops, then that will be even worse to get big money for him.
No one should pay anything more than 80m for him post covid, every club has been hit financially to some degree. Not even the top clubs can escape that.
Why should Dortmund sell him now, if it made only a difference of about 20m compared to next season? He's their key player. Having him in the squad can easily make the difference between progressing to another stage in the CL or not.
Not to mention all the buzz the guy creates for the club. You'll have to make it worth considering for them. And I'm afraid your idea of what is a fair offer is doesn't match that of the Dortmund board.
2 reasons i can think of, right off the bat are:
1) Their finances are not looking good post Covid
2) If they sell now, they’re also likely to get very reasonably priced deals for Sancho’s replacement or any other players they’d like to bring in (assuming Sancho’s transfer offsets the covid induced losses in their books by a fair margin).
The market will be inflated again at the end of next season when Sancho’s price would actually drop further.
They don't have to sell him, but the more they delay the less they will get, and that is a fact. They won't get the same money next year that they will get this year.
Dortmund can delude themselves over what they want, no one is going to pay more than 80-90m on him this window. Every club has been affected by the covid situation, they can keep deluding themselves that he is worth 120m+, but no one is paying that this season or next.
Either Dortmund wake the feck up and understand that the situation is not the same as before and come to a compromise, or keep him and lose him for even cheaper next year. The decision is theirs ofcourse.
Also, if they delude themselves in to thinking that their players are worth that, then I hope they are made to pay through their teeth on their incoming players as well. I hope Birmingham ask 150m for Bellingham, as you know he is 4 years younger than Sancho and is British as well. By your logic that seems 'fair'.
Because Sancho will be a depreciating asset as he won't sign a new contract while his replacement will likely be an appreciating asset who they can fatten up and get ready for their next big sale in another couple of years time.
They are not just losing out on the money that Sancho's valuation will drop by, they are also losing out on potential gain in market value of his replacement.
So who's that replacement they won't buy? Again, you have to make a serious business case for that transfer. You are a fool to think he'll go for anything less than 60m next year, rather more, considering there'll be more bidders. That leaves us with your(well not yours, but you've picked up my reply) evaluation of 20m for one year of Sancho's contract, which is rather far off. He's easily worth that for them.

Completely agree. Not only is he an arsehole, he really isn't that special. We would be causing more problems than we solve with him. At nearly 30 and with the sort of money we're talking, it would be a distaster.

I'd have loved in him the summer of 2017, really was excited for that transfer, but not now, not a chance. That ship has long sailed, he doesn't fit what we're trying to build at all.
Cheeky loan offer with a reasonable fee (5-10 mil) for Griezmann would be nice.
