Yeah, I'm not really familiar with either of the names. On first glance it seemed like he was suggesting Inter have been the most dominant team recently.

Maybe I'm just tired

The way that it's written, he is suggesting that Inter are the most dominant team over the last 18 months but he mixed up their director's name with the Juve director.

Seems quite low given the hyperbole surrounding his performances in Italy.
Not the most reliable source reporting it. So I'm gonna wait for Di Marzio or Romano to give their two cents. But I don't think we'll get much more from a Italian club.

There's always Inter ;)

Chiesa would want to stay in Italy.

Sancho will be our number 1 target either now or next year anyway.

Or we're playing games to show we can go elsewhere putting some pressure on Dortmund and the players camp to start putting some work in.

Dortmund seem completely fine to keeping him, doubt they really give a shit if we are looking elsewhere. The last respectable reports suggested they had no intention of budging on their valuation and we've heard nothing since except that we are now looking elsewhere.

That being said, I hope that isn't the case.

He has 1 year left on his contract next summer, Dortmund will risk losing him for free 6 months from then.

It all about who wants to take the bigger risk, us losing out on him to another club offering a bigger signing on bonus, or Dortmund losing €100m

Wow this might actually be the best time for Dortmund to get a good price for him. If they are stubborn and keep him another season every club that comes for Sancho would low ball them knowing they can get him for free in 6 months

Or we are covering our bases and giving ourselves options so as not to look desperate

I was only joking :)

I think Sancho is the number one target for this summer still. Given we are weak at RW it would make sense if we had multiple targets in case we can't get Sancho over the line for whatever reason (money / him wanting a different club etc).

I trust Ole to make the right call whatever happens. He's made some of the best signings we've seen post Ferguson.

He will be 31y in november. And even it's not THAT much for CB, he still isn't Baresi or Cannavaro. He would be our 3. or 4. CB. I dont say it's a good price but there is good reasons why we will not get anything like 30M etc. But total with loans will be something like 15-20M. Im ok with that because club didnt seems to have future plans with him.

Is Chiesa any good? I haven't seen him play. Anyone in a position to make comparisons with Sancho?

He's not all that good. This is most likely his agent putting his name up to drum up interest or a better contract.

Very good player, improving all the time. Plays for an average Fiorentina side though.

Sancho is better, his output is better and he is technically better as well. Chiesa has a fantastic workrate though and mentality, would suit Ole very well. I don't see him leaving Italy, Juve or Inter will snap him up, that would be my guess.

I never was a fan of Smalling but only 15 mil is ridiculous.

He's 30, and is not first choice here. Roma will have paid 6M in loan fees by the time they have to buy him for 15M next summer, at which time he will be 31. He's going to cost them 18-21M. Which is a completely fair price IMO.

Don't know much about Chiesa but I'd imagine him and Van de Beek together would cost the same as Sancho - which would make more sense. Sancho could be amazing for us but risking getting another big money flop rather than improving elsewhere isn't the strategy we've been taking recently.

He wont flop, but we can get him for cheaper next season or for free in 2 years. Chiesa is versatile enough to play different positions, so it would make sense to wait on Sancho rather than pay 100m+ now.

Need someone this season though. We’re too far off City and Liverpool but if we improve well this coming window we’d close the gap quite a lot.

That is why Chiesa would make sense. I don't see us spending over 100m this summer on a single player anyway, even if RW is our biggest weakness and needs a top player. We may however buy a RW and a midfielder for 100m together and be done with for this summer.

If we won’t spend it this summer then why can we spend it next summer, after spending a fair chunk on a plan B ?

I don’t see why we can’t spend more this summer and less next summer (if required.)

I know we aren’t immune to the economic effects of this Pandemic but we are closer to immune than almost any other club. We should make it happen. Feck knows when this pandemic finally goes, could be worse off next year.

Pretty obvious its links to make us not seem *that* desperate to get Sancho. Doesnt work though :p
