A midfielder & a striker and all of a sudden this is a very good window. I know time is running out, but surely there's a striker out there we can get who is good for the squad & can get 10 goals over the rest of the season. Maybe Mitrovic?

Mitrovic wouldn't get 10 goals.

We’ve had our share of bad boys; they just haven’t arrived at the right team yet like King Éric
You could be right but I don't think we have the manager in place to tame such personalities. Mitrovic for example is reported to have fought his own teammate on no less than two occasions in the last 12 months alone. Arnautovic has been trouble at several clubs and has been accused of downing tools at both Stoke and West Ham. Below is a excerpt and article from tifo which sheds light on his troubles.

"It’s almost a standard answer in this situation, but with Arnautovic there’s little doubt of the trouble which could lie ahead. As Stoke supporters are well aware, the Austrian is not an asset when he becomes demotivated and, headstrong as he is, he can actually be thoroughly corrosive. Really then, West Ham have actually been presented with an opportunity. £35m for a player due to turn 30 in April is myopic even by the standards of the Chinese Super League and it offers the English club the chance to get out from underneath a prohibitive contract which will only become more burdensome as the seasons go by"

Wait so we have just one group of transfer negotiators? We dont have a group working on Bruno deal and another group putting together a deal for a striker? What kind of ineptitude is this?
I hope that isn't the case.

Because of course we are

Probably just to get some cash. But if we are going to extend, we can't offer higher or the same wages anymore, he's a squad player now. If he doesn't accept the condition then would rather let him go for free.

Ole has finally realized Woody cant sign players.

Keeping Sanchez and Matic might be the only options.

Matić has come in and done really well in a bit of a duff midfield. He hasn’t stropped or come on and half baked it like Eriksen either.

He is a good player and can definitely participate in a squad playing in four competitions.

There are about 10 players in the cue who should be leaving before Matic does.

Yeah, Matic has been a handy player to have during the midfield crisis. He certainly looks a lot better now than he did at the end of Mourinho's reign.

This is correct. I wish people could update their manic anti United hate campaigns on a more regular basis. God knows we don't lack for options. Matic excellent since he reappeared on the scene.

Would be fine with Matic extension if we get him on reduced wages with bonuses making up the difference.

Exactly, well put.

 Some in here dont deserve anything better and when he turns shit like he was 80% of the time so far, you will be asking why they gave him a contract.

My thoughts exactly. This forum is predictably the same everytime. 99% of it was slagging him off for the longest, saying he was old, past it and was part of the 'deadwood' that needed to go. Now all of a sudden he comes in and does decently well for a couple of games (hard to do worse than what we have to be fair) and all of a sudden it's good news he gets an extension and he can do a job etc. It's this attitude and constant flip flopping that means players like Matic, Jones etc that should have been gotten rid of at the earliest opportunity continue to remain here and get new contracts. We deserve everything we get I swear, and that's to drown in mediocrity.

Mostly agree, except that at some point it clearly looked like we were going to release him at the end of his contract and he was critical of Ole. Now we want to tie him into a new contract.

And the same applies to Alexis.

What a fecking joke!

You'd think they would, but so far they've just come off as clueless. Maybe they're not great businessmen, but have been benefiting from the reputable name of Manchester United. How else could we explain the lack of investment and urgency, and more importantly structure adaptability?
Could be. Maybe Avram (assuming he was the father) was the only businessman in the family and his kids as non-business types are simply benefitting from Daddy's riches?

You lot are so dim, honestly. We've been trimming the squad and arguably too much too quickly. You all constantly call for x player to be moved on but we need a whole squad and you need some experience and character in that squad. Ideally Matic would be around the 4th or 5th choice and he can certainly do a job in that role.

It isn't fantasy football where you need 11 starters and your subs, you have no clue. You're not always going to have players willing to play limited games but you need those sorts of players. Players like Mata and Matic are useful to have around the club, on the training ground and as back up. We love them on and we've aomost zero experience of winning anything within the squad. We have an even more threadbare squad that is full of young, naive players.

I bet you're the sort of person who makes posts during transfer windows and includes 7 out, 8 in and makes multiple potential team line ups with all of your proposed changes.

Lets say we move Matic on which we may well still end up doing, who comes in and replaces him? Who takes his place in the squad? We need to bring players in desperately and start utilising the likes of Mata and Matic as players who can come in and give players a rest. They are having to start too often because we simply don't have the quality available in the first team.

I don't get why we're after Piatek ourselves. Seemingly available and would be cheap.

He's had like 2 decent games in the last year and has looked finished for the most part the rest of the time, but instead of upgrading our midfield we look to extend a has-beens contract.

Isn't this the automatic extension they trigger for literally every player?

It's pretty clear he would have been sold in this window apart if it wasn't for the injury crisis.

He signed a three year deal in 2017 so without the extension, he would be able to go on a free in the Summer.

I think he'll be gone in the Summer anyway. It makes sense to at least get some money for him.

We've tried this before and by the time you add up the wages we are paying the deadwood, the £2M we get for them by the time they finally go will barely see us breaking even.
