He has done well to get rid of alot of players, but its easy to say I dont want xyz, well who will replace these players?
He keeps saying we have to identify the right player, his attitude etc.
How long does it take to identify a Midfielder, RW, CAM, ST.
Then we see reports that we are Maddison, Sancho are our top targets, but it is not rocket science to identify the 2 best performing players?
How were Van Gaal's signings over the hill? Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria and Anthony Martial were all young or mid-twenties. Only Falcao (loan) and Schweinsteiger (cheap) were older players.
It didn't work out for a lot of them but it wasn't because they were old.
Yeah it's hilarious to have moved on the deadwood from the squad and to promote players like Williams and Greenwood to prominence.

Lets be honest, none of them were given proper time to settle into a team? Di Maria was gone in a year, Memphis was gone, Herrera looked decent and Schneriderlin never played.
We have seen with Fred it takes a while for players to settle into English football.
It's not either 3 or 14.
Besides Lukaku's price which was rightly set, Inter won't be price gouged by many teams. It's a different story for us.
If we wanted to buy Buffon, who's like 45 years old, Juve would demand at least £25 million from us.
I fear rebuilding for us may take more transfer windows than any manager will get.
In fairness even with hindsight looking at those signings they looked good . Funny how things work out

I agree on the targets we're linked with though. It's hilarious they can claim to have this amazing scouting network and the whole world can see those guys are good and expensive.

It's a shame depay and di maria didn't work out. Especially di maria is a brilliant footballer. Never really wanted tobe here though.
One thing you can't say about LvG is that his rebuild consisted of short term old player solutions. He gave a ton of youngsters their first chance.
We haven't replaced a number of players who have been sold though.

You can argue that AWB and Maguire are upgrades. Otherwise, it is clear we have been significantly weakened in the last 12 months. That's not rebuilding its just dismantling.
Well, 3rd will be in summer then? in a rebuild to have 3 players in so far. One of them is a squad player rather than first team in James.
Exactly, It's not as if they have signed a Mane, Salah for £30m and they are tearing it.
A year in charge, it shouldn't take that long to assess the squad and figure out what we need.

Who's to say that he hasn't assessed the squad, given a list to Woody/Judge but it's them that's causing this problem? We all know Ole wants more players, so it seems unlikely to be him that's the problem.

I agree. I just it difficult to excuse not getting a midfielder. They sold Fellaini in February. We knew Herrera was leaving early in the summer.
They had ample time to sign at least one central midfielder. Having failed to do so last summer it’s beyond belief we didn’t line up a January move right away.
I think that, in general, we can agree that managers probably should not be blamed too harshly (nor praised too fulsomely) for what the club does/doesn't do in the transfer market.
We don't really know the breakdown of responsibilities re recruitment and our problems in that area have spanned seven years and four managers. The one commonality has been Ed Woodward and the United Board, who have failed to make sufficient improvements in this area. I'm inclined to lay most of the blame at their door.
Arguably its his 2nd, I personally wouldn’t count January as a “window” - Nothing ever happens - personally, I think Jan transfer window should be scrapped and Summer transfer window extended by a week

Well it seems he has assessed the squad very well, that's why he doesnt know who his starting 11. He wants to build a team around Pogba who wants out.
I agree the problem seems to be Woodward and the board.

Considering the size of our squad, our injury list, our position in the table and the Europa league coming up, this transfer window has been criminal. Even for Woodward, this is a horrendous new low.

He’s very good, but he’s been very injury prone in the past year or so. A subsidiary move like this makes sense.
Mate, he shifted 2 x senior midfielders and didn't bring in one player. Leaving us with a completely makeshift midfield that is one injury away (Fred) from being on it's arse. It's a completely negligent 'rebuilding' effort. You don't throw inexperienced kids into a starting 11 lacking leadership, drive and a winning mentality.
I read Ornstein's Monday article there and he didn't mention United once.
Cant wait transfer window to finish.
