Tbf i like to watch him on the pitch being mental, maybe not in our shirt but in general, always said, only thing missing is comic book cloud above his head, just to see whats his thinking when he tries to do some crazy shit.
Bean counters are also wrong, because that bowl of beans has expiry date and they are stocking merchandise that will very likely go bad before they can sell it, racking up silly costs.

Eric Bailly is paid £80,000/week. Given 52 weeks/year, keeping him on for another year costs us £4,16M in pure cash + other implications that having a player on the books have. Does that sound "for nothing" to you? And how much do you think anybody will pay for a player with such injury record, even if they don't wait for his extended contract to also run down, or if he doesn't get injured again, as soon as we play him.
Nothing is certain, but again if sale price > incremental wages we've paid to keep him tied up, then it makes sense.
I write this dispassionately, as I can't stand the player and want him gone asap.

I hear you, but their financial calculations don't necessarily make sense – is all. Like you said the "if sale price > cost" is an assumption and it is a big "if". Chances are he still goes on free, just a year later, having cost us £4.2M more in wages.
Even If we sell him for 5m in 5 months time then it would be worth it. I'm pretty we could get at least that.
You are making two major assumptions:
1. He does not get injured by then again. Injured players don't get bought. Are we going to keep him gift-wrapped until sale and never play? Do people want to buy a player that hasn't played in two years?
2. You are assuming buyers will not wait until he is free again. We are only extending by one year. If you were a buyer, why the feck would you pay for him 5M, when you can wait 6 more months and get him for free? A team that pays 5M for a CB is a poor team. They don't have money to throw around. Not to mention that Woodward will not sell him for 5M. Transaction costs and the size of his ego is worth him more than 1M profit.
I'd rather have someone on the books for 4-5 million a year who can actually play for more than 20 mins.
We may just be paying another years wages while he gets fit and leaves on a free. Clubs might not want to take a gamble spending 15-25 million on him with a year left but who knows, he could become a regular for United or someone has to take a gamble on him. I feel players like Shaw and Bailly need to be let go sooner for players who can be relied upon, I've seen enough to really doubt these will ever be fit here.

Your assuming that he will get injured again.. Sure its a risk but my opinion is it worth the risk.

His injury issues and form in general when he's actually fit is so up and down for me, and yeah when its mattered I don't know, I don't think he's one to really stand up to be counted more often than not. He'd want huge money to come, I doubt he'd really want to be here anyway, he'd be the typical past his best over payed headache we're trying to avoid now.
Tend to agree. I want someone who sees us as a step up and wants to get better. He is past that stage. He likely would see it as a step down in our situation, but a nice big pay packet. We needed to get him when he first moved and still had ambition.
I'm not sure. He's never really settled at Bayern besides a year or so, and when he did he played well. We are in dire need of a player to control the game from deep and Thiago is one of the best in the world at that.
