Again with Idris Gueye 29, two years at most for what, a mediocre PL player that has turned up for the last 5 games because he's in the shop window for 1 last big contract while Everton go and sign Watford's Dacoure who is 3 years younger, same money and bossed the recent game against us for Watford.

Wow you're right. I would have been pretty okay with the signing if he was like 20-25 but yeah, hope we stay away.
Why? He's good at winning the ball, has energy and pace (IIRC). If he's available for <30m that'd be a decent buy. If we get him and Bruno in I'd be happy.

Sure we'd need to get another DM in a year or two but it would also give our youngsters a chance to develop (Garner).

Because he's not an improvement. Unless some of these players suddenly improve significantly until the start of next season that midfield is just not good enough for a team with anything more than top 4 aspirations.
Most of us knew this already that £400M would be needed and this is why United are not dismissing any of the media coverage for the sales of Either De Gea or more likely Pogba.
Sanchez, Darmian, Rojo, Bailey will probably recoup £75M and Pogba £125M then knowing the Woodward works, he will tell him that he only has £250M because the Club have used £150M for wages and transfer fee to bring in Gareth Bale at 30 as part of the Pogba deal so A list targets of Sancho, D Costa, Koulibaly, N'Dombele and Saul will be sacrificed for T Audewereild, T Meunier, D Rice, H Lozano, I Gueye.

Obviously, Gueye isn't my/our ideal signing but I don't think it would be a bad piece of business if the price is really below 30m as quoted. We need so many replacements/upgrades that we can't afford to spend big on every single one of them. Getting in Alderweireld and Gueye for 60m combined would mean we have more money for other, more pressing positions (fullback, right wing).
For example:
Alderweireld - 30m
Gueye - 30m
Bruno - 60m
Wan-Bissaka/Meunier - 40-50m
Any promising RW (Lozano? Neres?) - 50m++
That's a minimum spend of 210m pounds already. Which would be huge. If we go for the likes of Neves (70m++) or Sancho (100m++), we'd probably have to double that amount. That would be insane. There's no way the club can do that. Not when our outgoings are mostly leaving on a free.

Gueye would be a downgrade on Herrera and offer us nothing to improve the quality of our midfield, which is what we should be doing, not buying cheap downgrade squad players.

Gueye is a good player. But the press always contradict themselves. They’ve already said we will be looking to target younger players unless it’s someone outstanding. Now we all of sudden want a 29 year old, who is a good player but hardly outstanding.
