Good luck fitting Pogba and Fekir in a same midfield. Let's increase the defensive responsibility on our best player by signing a new player.

If he can play in a front three and at right, then we should be in for him. Else it's useless.

Alexis - Lukaku

Fekir

Pogba - Herrera/new CM

Matic
4-4-2 diamond. Done.

This would require 2 top quality full backs though, do we think we'll have enough for everything? I can only see us buying 1 midfielder and 2 full backs.

Edit: sorry, and CB.

Alex Sandro and R. Pereira or Meunier. They aren't Marcelo or Dani Alves, but the best we can do. Ideally, IMO we should sign a RB, a LB, 2 CMs and a RW or AM. I'd be okay with ignoring central defence for now.

Please don't let them twats sign Fekir :(

VVD, Keita, Salah, Mane, Firmino, Fekir are top quality and a bit concerning. One more top CB and they'll be flying.
It's about what we do, not bothered what them or City do. If we address the right areas we can compete with anyone next year. Our squad isn't far off, it's about getting the most out of what we have and getting consistent.

So 70m Euros for Fekir.
Two new fullbacks worth 80-90m euros(combined).
New CM around 50m.

You expect us to spend 200m euros. Good luck on that.

Just play Fekir in our blank empty RW spot, he's played there plenty of times and drifts to the right when playing central. Even if he drifts inside like Juan does.
Alexis Lukaku Fekir
Pogba Matic Neves
Sandro Alderweireld Bailly R. Pereira
De Gea

Or... Jose's Favourite

Lukaku
Alexis Fekir F.Anderson
Pogba Matic
Sandro Alderweireld Bailly R. Pereira
De Gea

Wasn't really the point you made, was it?! Not sure what else you want us to do. Good players are going to cost money unfortunately and we will most likely sell a few, which should bring your estimate down. For what it's worth, I don't think we are going to sign 5 players, I just think that's what we need to compete with City.

I think we will easily spend £150-£200m on 4 players.

Then there will be sales such as Martial unfortunately (£60m), Shaw unfortunately (£20m), Darmian (£15m), Blind (£15m) and possibly one of the CB's say Jones or Rojo for talk sake (£20m).

Circa £100m net spend isn't unimaginable.

My original point was about fitting Pogba and Fekir in a midfield 3 which you presumably didn't read and then went on to make a diamond formation which would obviously fit him.

Regarding your other point, I think we can compete with City, if our manager makes better usage of our resources, but that's for the other thread.

Fekir has played in a 3 man midfield and wouldn't be any more of a difficult fit with Pogba than Milinkovic-Savic who will cost us £80M.

You could play him in a 433, Pogba - Matic - Fekir, very attacking but so is Liverpools and City's who have the best attacks in the league

Keep moving goalposts. Here is your post. I am sorry I took the liberty and made it actually work. Oh, and Fekir can play on the right as well.

Edit: What @Devil may care and @Cheekiey said.

He would be a much better fit in fact as he can play the rcm role and is more mobile than SMS.

I agree, a midfield 3 of Matic, Pogba and SMS will be so slow and lacking in mobility and Fekir also keeps the ball better than SMS.

I'm sure KM can fight his own battles but I can't help but note that all he said was you can't play him in a midfield 3.. after which you made a diamond to force him into a midfield 3.

Just unsure on which goalposts are being moved here.

If we are being pedantic here, he never said anything of a midfield 3 in his inital post, just midfield. Depending on your definition of the 4-4-2 diamond, the AM position belongs to the midfield. As @Devil may care and @Cheekiey have pointed out, he can also play in 4-3-3 midfield, he has done it in the past. Point overall is, that he would be a very good signing for us and we could make it work.

Griezmann doubts between Atlético and Barça, Atlético offer more money

Manolas offered to Madrid

Di Maria wouldn't fit in with Atletico. He's too soft. Simeone will demand he work his bollocks off and he's not up for that fight. He's a gutless players.

Perhaps because he is Argentine Simeone could get that he is involved, in any case it seems very complicated. I imagine that Di Maria would want to go back to Spain but surely he earns too much

Romain Collet-Gaudin (Canal+): "Jurgen Klopp has met Nabil Fekir. Fekir will sign for Liverpool for €70M (£61.6M) unless there are unforeseen circumstances. Chelsea also tried to sign Fekir but without success."

This is really worrying. He's the exact type of player we are crying out for in our slow ponderous midfield. A creative technical midfielder capable of both scoring and setting up others. He is a ball carrier. Someone that will lay chances on a plate for the strikers. Why are we not in for him? Our midfield isn't exactly filled with quality is it? With Fekir in the team we could have Pogba missing and we wouldn't feel it. We should be signing players of this mould ie Silva/Isco/Coutinho/Fekir/Eriksen with low centre of gravity and ability in tight spaces instead of stockpiling our midfield with more lumps like SMS and keeping Fellaini/McTominay etc. This time next season we'll be asking ourselves why we weren't in for this guy. Something is very wrong with our transfer policy. We are never in for these players who are on the verge of being world class and are just waiting for the opportunity to go to big clubs and play with better players. We never take a chance. Liverpool will like they have with Salah and others and we'll overpay for SMS or Griezmann/Willian and make them look shite. We've become very predictable in the transfer market.

I can't believe Mourinho would have any interest in Fekir. Fekir would be a poor target for hoof balls. If Mo can't get Fellaini extended, he'll go for a genuine hoof ball target like SMS.

He must have signed Mkhi and Sanchez because they were brilliant hoofball targets then.

Do you think SMS is more like Fellaini because of height? That applies to Matic too? Matic has the physicality of a target man but Jose didn't even use him for hoof ball target. SMS is a version of Pogba but less skilled and has high work rate in attack and defence, he is often labelled as the completed midfielders. Fellaini is the opposites of SMS, Fellaini is very limited.

Look at the original set of posts, it was mentioned that he would play as a third CM in a midfield 3, and I replied to that saying that good luck fitting him and Pogba in the same midfield. Thought it was pretty obvious to anyone, but guess not, hey-ho.

Yeah, you are right.

Alternatively we can just sign the ones with standout qualities who can feature in all positions across the front 3, and also as a third CM in a midfield 3.

Someone like...Fekir.

Martial, Shaw, Depay, Bailley, Pogba, Lindelof, Blind Lukaku and Darmain signings were those types were they not?

"Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's representatives have reportedly said that his rumored move to Manchester United is a "Done Deal" - [ESPN]

I hope it's not at the expanse of Fred though, much better player and would suit us down to tea.

Brace yourselves lads. It's going to be very busy and lot's of upset/manic posters around this forum in the next month.

Good. At least in the next 3 weeks we should see most the big transfers done around Europe due to the risk of those players value going even higher/lower with a good/poor world cup.

Doesn't Jose always like to get his business done early? However, Woodward not so much.

Can our intensified interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have anything to do with above?

I like Pogba and want him to stay but judging by other's posters views on SMS he's basically the same player as Pogba. Would it really be that bad for a transfer to see Pogba go and SMS come in?

Especially if we get £150-200m for Pogba from the cash cows and only have to pay £80m or SMS.

SMS, Sandro and Meunier from the Pogba money would be excellent value.
